I'm glad that you have enough faith in the system to believe that if you have nothing to hide you don't have to worry.. Unfortunately I've had so many lies told to me by the DWP in regards to what I am/am not capable of, that I can't trust them, and I feel that I do have a lot to worry about.. I had a horrific medical and the report had just two true things in it! The "dr" put down completely different things than what I told him and it took me 5 months to get it back! Those five months were awful, I felt like a liar and a cheat, despite being neither, I was backed up by my GP, consultant and OT and still felt like that!

i also see people who cant walk very far.
my quick assesment would be that there are quite a few cheating the system.

That's painfully naive - and harmfully so. I look young and healthy, but I have plenty of days when I can't even get out of bed and during winter I am nearly housebound. Every step I take causes me pain, but I've been in pain so long it only shows on my face to people who know me really well.

Snap assessments like yours are a big reason the tabloids hype up benefit fraud so much - they're ignorant about invisible disabilities too. Income tax fraud is actually a far more expensive problem for the country, but they don't get targeted like we do.

What I wouldn't give to be as healthy as I look!!

The simple point is that people should not be able to make potentially Libellous claims against others without providing their own details.

I completely agree. It's not like the DWP would be passing them on to the people accused.

I agree. Would make people think before makng these claims to the DWP about this so called "fraud".

  • If I thought a crime was being committed should I have to suffer 'comeback' if it turns out I'm wrong? Nobody should. If I thought someone was fiddling benefits I'd report them right away and would be happy to give my details, but I shouldn't have consequences if it turns out to be wrong.

I disagree. You're basically getting away with wasting the investigators time, taxpayers money and the person lives in fear that they're being watched and that their money could be taken away from them. Why should you be able to get away scot free if you're wrong?

Because reporting a suspected crime is not illegal. By your logic nobody should ever report a crime of any kind in case they are wrong. I hope if anyone ever heard screaming coming from my house they wouldn't have your attitude.

I would think it is a worthwhile saving if just 1 in 10 fraud reports to the DWP result in less being paid out.

Why should my neighbour have a mobility car? This morning I watched him carry 2 heavy bags of shopping at least 30 metres from the car to his front door. He can nip up to the pub 200 metres away faster than I can. Sometimes uses a stick if he thinks anyone is watching. I bet there isn't a single one of us that doesn't know someone that is vastly exaggerating symptoms to get disability benefits.

I think everyone who is investigated and found to be claiming fraudulently should never be able to claim the benefits again.
