    Sorry, my mistake. :o

You could ask for the contactless card, which comes with a cheque guarantee function.

When I opened my account, I asked for it, and just gave it to me. I don't even have credit history, and got a small overdraft and a contactless card. I assume you have credit history, and you might have a chance of getting it.

AFAIA Barclays don't issue CGC cards anymore, along with all the other banks as the scheme only has 11 months to run.

As for me qualifying for such extras, I will stand more chance when my lasty default drops off in 4 weeks time. Not that I want an overdraft, nor does anywhere local accept contactless cards.
Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.

I have a contactless card, i've had it for about 18 months, and i've never ever used it.

The only place i've been in that takes it is Pret. (and possibly starbucks in Central London)

The Co-op (the shop) are accepting contactless cards soon.

The card you currently have (4658) can't have contactless, only 4659 cards have them. :(

I think when the cheque guarantee scheme runs out, all types of debit cards will have a contactless function.

You can only have contactless added to your debit card if you qualify for a 4659 card with barclays (offline card, and former cheque card) It can't be added to a full auth card regardless of what kind of account you have.

The technology is exclusively offline at the moment and therefore will not be issued to cardholders with a full auth card because it has no way of connecting to check for funds. So I disagree with the last part of your statement.

Your card should will have Service card 100 on it? That's an offline Visa debit I think.....

I wonder if when natwest starts phasing out the CGC and removing the word servicecard in January 2011 if the new cards will still be purple?

Unsurprisingly, my Barclays card does not work on Tesco Pay@Pump :(

So what does it come up on the screen, just declines the card?

I'd be on the phone requesting them to upgrade the card, see what they say.

My HSBC card must definitely be an offline card, as it got accepted in the pay@pump machine.

    :(

At least your other debit card with the other bank works at the Py @Pump. Use that for the time being. I hope it works when paying for train tickets at the machine (if not, queue up to buy), and/or paying for car parking.

I hope Barclays will let you change your card.
