Like I say I have an admission from A&L that what used to be the 'debit no chq' cards A&L issued are actually the former Electron cards. I spent about 6 months having this argument with A&L and then got the FOS involved on it who ruled in my favour. At one point A&L tried to tell me they had issued me an Electron when I opened the account in December 2007, but I've never had an Electron with them - it was one of these new 'Visa Debit' cards that was cancelled and reissued within 3 weeks of issue in January 2008 after it was cloned in London. They then told me that I had been approved for an Electron card only when I opened the account which is why I had one of these cards.
Whether now these cards are different with the stopping of CHQ cards to new customers, I dont know. But mine is DEFINITELY still a full-auth card.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -

What is the name of the actual account you opened with A&L? Eg the one I have is a "Premier Direct Current Account" which came (for me at least) with an offline card.Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.0 -
My A&L is a Premier 50 current (just 50) showing my age! I've not used it that much as my Halifax is going to be my main account.
I don't drive so can't test it out at pay at pump.0 -

It used to be the Premier Account, it was opened as a Premier. Its now a straight Current Account, (downgraded by me) apparantly the Premier Direct only comes with an offline card which was another gripe the FOS pulled them up on, after I was repeatedly told yes we can upgrade you and had several needless credit searches done when they knew they couldnt upgrade me. God only knows what will happen to my account now as Santander dont offer anything like my bog-standard no interest paying current account....*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -

No I don't, I have a Barclays Bank Account which comes with chequebook. An overdraft and Contactless card are available to me subject to status.
Sorry, my mistake.
You could ask for the contactless card, which comes with a cheque guarantee function.
When I opened my account, I asked for it, and just gave it to me. I don't even have credit history, and got a small overdraft and a contactless card. I assume you have credit history, and you might have a chance of getting it.0
