  • Hi,

I have the purple Nationwide Cash Card+ and can confirm that it works in both Tesco and ASDA pay at pump.

Not used it at Morrisons as yet though, I've never made it go overdrawn so not sure what the ghost limit is, but ive done it when only £10 in a/c for £10 of fuel and that worked.

    Cheers,

    David

I thought that you couldnt use full auth cards to shop online - but we've used my A&L 4659 Visa Debit twice at Tesco.com twice now and its been fine..?

Purchases done on the net are always done in full auth mode, even if its a credit card. It is not referring to Online, as in the internet it is referring to the Bank being ready and able to process your withdrawal request when you make it there and then.

Sorry guys, I still don't understand the difference between a "full auth" card and an "offline" one?

    If i'm correct:

    - Online card: decline all transactions if merchant terminal can't connect to internet
    - offline card: transactions authorized wether merchant's terminal is online or offline
    - full auth card: ???

I just received a 4658 59 Barclays card (has the hologram at the back, and is attached to a Cashcard account) and according to some people here, this is an offline card, right?

Also, what can't I do with this card that people can do with the 4659 card (except for the contactless thing and CGC)?

    thanks

Your 4658 card is an online/auth card.

But this doesn't mean that it will always authorise the full amount there and then, but it will need to make a terminal connection. I've yet to find a store that it doesn't work in. You can still use it in petrol stations pay@pump / parking ticket booths etc. However you will always need to have some funds in your account.

Apart from wanting to overspend (which you could do with an offline card) then there is very little difference between the 2 cards (excluding cgc & contactless).

Could anyone tell me is it true if you have a cashcard account with Barclays you can have a contactless card if you request one in branch.

It does not reference that the account type is illegible online my brother seems to think you can.

    Many thanks

Cash Card Account debit cards with Barclays don't have a contactless feature on it. These cards starts with 4658. Other types of Barclays bank accounts debit cards have them, they start with 4659.

    From my understanding:
Full Auth/Online - Checks with the bank for every transaction you make
Offline - Only checks with the bank if above the retailers floor limit.
