Marriage = The grinding tedium of enforced companionship.:rotfl:
According to the lady vicar off 'The League of Gentlemen'.
Of course i dont agree with her though...but that quote always makes me laugh:D

Not necessarily. The world is full of men who never (or rarely) see their children. For a man, fathering a child is no commitment whatsoever, whatever some women manage to persuade themselves.

I'm sure there are. The majority would not. Facts show that.;)

I love that too - actually I love pretty much every line from League of Gentlemen!

Ermmm....yup!! Seriously you've never heard anyone lament "I really thought the baby would bring us closer together but he doesn't want to know / doesn't see the kids / doesn't pay for their upkeep"..blah blah blah!!

I've always said I would love to show what life is like to teenagers that think having kids will be a life enhancer - even if the couple splits up.....I know some people make it work but sooo many don't - or they do until life throws something more complicated up.

I swear if I could playback a tape of when my OH's X is carrying on and say "you could have this for at least the next 18 years" I reckon their b*lls would disappear so up inside them they may never reappear!

Again marriage isn't the magic salve to all our problems - but making a commitment (not necessarily a wedding) BEFORE you have children gives you all (especially the children) a better chance.

In this country alone single mothers are in the minority.

Here's an article quoting said facts, which show that single parent families make up a quarter of families in the UK. The majority of those children will not have been abandoned. Point proven.

Really? What this article (from 2007 by the way) shows is that approx 1 in 4 familes is a lone parent family and that a high proportion (43.5%) are unemployed and relying on benefits. There is no 'proof' here that those familes are supported by the absent parent.

    Must try harder MrF;)

To the detriment of their happiness. Shackled together, united in misery. It's hardly a recipe for a positive view of marriage.

How could anybody be happy if they had gone against their moral view, much less their faith?

Marriages are so expensive these days .

Marriages are no more expensive than they ever were. Weddings however are ridiculously expensive because too many people think that they deserve all the trimmings that used to be the prerogative of the rich.

Why do people not understand the difference between a marriage and a wedding?

So, by your thinking, the government never needed to set up a whole department (CSA) to get money out of absent fathers? Perhaps you should have told them this years ago!:rotfl:
