Do younger people not believe in keeping their promises?

Not if it means a life of unhappiness.

If I were married and married to my mother I would probably be in prison now as I more than likely would have strangled her!!!!

I didn't say any such thing. My exact wording was: "Reality proves you wrong."

    ;)

    It really, really doesn't.

Are you my little brother? He's also steadfastly pedantic when he's wrong.

Of course it does. Unless you're actually suggesting that what Oldernotwiser is true. Which it clearly is not.

We were married before we had children but I think the important thing is that children are brought up in a secure and loving home regardless of whether the parents are married or not.

Would rather be a child growing up in a happy household where mum and dad weren't married but loved each other or in a miserable one where mum and dad were very unhappily married and there was a very unpleasant atmosphere?

Yes,people should try to work through problems in a relationship, but sometimes this just isn't possible and if this is the case they may want to consider splitting up for the sake of the children.

Again marriage isn't the magic salve to all our problems - but making a commitment (not necessarily a wedding) BEFORE you have children gives you all (especially the children) a better chance.[/QUOTE]

Sorry but can I just ask why the children have a better chance? a better chance of what?

I just dont understand the comment:o

To say that "the world is full of men who...." is a metaphor; it doesn't mean that all men are like this.
