Heya all and welcome to all new members!

I'm finally getting back into it. Went for a 4.5mi run yesterday before training. It's still really slow going but getting better each time I go out. Planning to do 4 runs this week but I think I'll keep to my short 4.5mi route and then next week up it to 20miles alltogether as I was doing before.

Good luck with everyone's training! :)

Still catching up with the thread, but almost there now :D

Quite nervous with the number of you who were doing half and full marathons last year - but comforted by the number of newer runners still working up to 10km as well :)
I was wondering......would you mind if I asked your ages???

Just came across this post from November, and realised I didn't mention my age in the intro I gave last night. I turned 45 (and hence moved into a new age category) on Sunday. I've had a lot of people commenting on 'running days being over' by mid 40's, and saying they think I'm mad to be starting out with it at this age !!!

But I have a number of reasons for wanting to get going and stick with it - above and beyond the desire to run the RFL this year which was my initial target.

I have a history of back problems, which aren't helped by being overweight - so the fact the exercise helps with getting/keeping my weight down is a good thing.
And then I discovered (over the last 18 months or so) that my parents are both on meds for high cholesterol - and was told in October 2009 that mine is already slightly elevated, but not enough to need meds yet. So getting fit & losing weight is also one way to combat the need for those at a later date.
Plus my Mum has also been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes - which I believe is also something I have more chance of avoiding if I can keep my weight (and fitness) under control.

Don't listen to the ones that say you're mad to start running in your 40's...they're just jealous that you've started something new that you enjoy! You seem very motivated as well, good luck with your running!

Tirlittan is spot on! I started in my 40s (after many years of heavy smoking, too)

    Welcome and good luck!

45 mins for me tonight - not intervals as planned but just a nice slow run to loosen up my very achey legs. I went with runchum and it was good for her because although she has completed a marathon, it was all at run/walk, whereas today she did the full 45 mins without stopping.....so she is certainly building up her stamina etc, which is also good for me.

Aiming to head out again on Thursday - again with runchum, but I will intend to go quite a bit further, which I really need to be doing with London creeping up!

    Happy running guys xx
