  • fedupandskint...that is really impressive. Good luck with that. I actually did a masters many years ago when I was working full time and I know what a struggle it can be. My son was born in the final year as well...I couldn't even contemplate it now:A

I am just back from my first relatively decent run for about a month (or since the saga with inserts began). Did 3.5 miles down the river which is pitiful for a long distance runner, but it feels so good. And it is a gorgeous day in Manchester - cold, dry and sunny.

At least you're back out there firewalker!

Went for a first run last night since last Wednesday's disaster with achilles. Felt ok but not 100%, good enough to run on though but think will keep to shorter distances this week. Yesterday's 4.6mi seemed to be about right and wouldn't want to go any further. Suprisingly run 4 minutes faster than the same route last week and that was with walking about 100yards cos it was too icy. Another go tonight I think, slowly, slowly though.
I'm finding that running too slow affects my form and makes it harder on my calves. Thankfully I don't have a working heart rate monitor cos that would probably disagree me going faster.

Hi guys, just back from a lovely run - yes there is still some snow and ice but it was glorious down the Mersey. Run with a friend who is very fast but slowed down for me - we did about 45 minutes. Things are getting better. And I entered Wilmslow Half Marathon - want to run it in 1 hour 55 min (instead of strating with the 'don't urinate in the bushes crowd').

I'm just back from my first run for 3-4 weeks - had cabin fever from illness, assignment and then snow and ice!

Was ok, slippy in places and had quite a few walking intervals of a minute or so as result. But the good news is I managed my 10K route - ok I didn't run it all non stop as it was punctuated with walking intervals - anyway feeling good and really glad I went out!

Off to look for some of the winter grips to see if they'll fit on my trainers

Hey all. I did a run on Wednesday too, just another 4.6mi and achilles felt fine. Thursday was a rest day, Friday I had a Xmas do so plan was run on Sat and Sun. Well, Saturday it was raining and I just didn't feel like it plus had to clean the house. Sunday was glorius but we went for a walk up Pen-Y-Fan instead. Weekend runs don't really work for me, I can't get the enthusiasm up then as BF is home. I think I just have to try to get all my runs done during the week as I work close to home and quite like going for a run straight after work and BF works in another city so is always home later than me. I think I've lost some of my motivation but still like running but as it'll never be my number one sport/hobby, I think I'll just keep it as a free fitness that's fun to do.

  • No running here. Pavements are still like ice rinks and are dangerous to walk on let alone run:( I'm actually missing it which I suppose is really good but I am sure I am comfort eating which is really bad:(
I've never heard of winter grips...how good are they and where do you get them from???? Like I said though we still have two inches of Ice out there so I probably would not risk it anyway. I have had an operation on my spine and a fall would be more dangerous than normal.
10K sounds fabulous fedupandskint I walked my run just beofre the snow and was dissappointed to find it was only 6.5K so even though I am doing the time I need to speed up to get the distance in as well.
Well done to everyone who has been running.:)
Oh and have got my new hat and gloves for running in, I can't wait to try them out.

I'm just back from my 2nd 10k - was much more dangerous out there tonight as the pavments are like ice rinks - plus one road really was and I went flying with a bump on my backside! A bit bruised so will leave things now until there is a thaw or get some wintergrips on

I'm ok though - was hard work as had to run slowly and a bit gingerly in places due to the ice

Hoping for a thaw to get back out for another run at the weekend

12.4 miles so far this week - the most distance run for many years!

I haven't run this week. And I doubt I will. No excuses. Paths are fine here, just not feeling it and doing other things.
