  • Hi teachergirl

I'm taking today off I think as my knees feel a bit swollen (?) and achy. Think at least 1 or 2 days off and reassess. Start to Week 6 delayed by a day or so but that's ok better to rest than strain and tear

    You're going great guns too - week 7 - you're nearly there!

  • Been off the running for a month now as I have been ill and just couldn't shift the cough. Went for my first run again yesterday and did 10K. A bit slower than usual but I enjoyed it and got round which is the main thing. Glad it went well as when I hadn't run for so long I began to doubt that I'd be able to do it again!!

Good running everyone! It has definitely gone quieter on this thread but glad teachergirl and fedupandskint are keeping it going! :)

I've been running, just didn't realise I haven't been on here since 4th!!! I've been running my 20miles a week, last week being the 4th one. On Saturday, I went to the park run to see if upping the mileage has helped me with my time. I felt really good and strong and was sure I'd run a PB. Didn't have a watch on me though so had to wait for the results. Managed 27:21 - PB being 26:22 so was bit :(.

My excuse is that I've started running more and maybe not quite yet used to the mileage or being able to convert it to a fast time. So now I have to decide if I start introducing some 'quality' work or shall I continue building my base and my mileage up to 30 miles a week. I'm not quite sure yet, but I shall be running none-the-less.

  • Good to see everyone is doing so well, and that I am not the only eejit out running in this weather.

My furthest run so far is 10K and just about to apply to enter next years half marathon eeeek!!

I am also going to enter the ballot for the New York Marathon in the hope I don't get a place :D Sounds strange I know, my theory is that I get three refusals and automatic entry after that! Knowing my luck I will get in first time trying :D My target is to run it before 2016 (when I reach a big age!).

Hey julie! Yeah, we are all nutters here. Have had my fair share running in rain and wind in the past 4 weeks. It's all good though.

My furthest run is 10k as well. Am building up my mileage at the moment and hoping to get my long run up to 10miles in the future. I think my furthest distance I'd be interested in racing would be half mara but see if I'll be ready for one the coming year or not.

I have fallen off the running wagon good and proper. Moved house, changed jobs, working now full time and also studying for exams. After my exams in December I will figure out how to include running into my new routine.

But in the meanwhile I am going to find out if I can find some swimming lessons for DD in local pool so that I can go swimming while she is on lessons.

That's a shame marru but you've had a lot of upheavel so it'll take time to settle into new routine. You'll get running again when the time is right!

  • Hello everyone:wave:.

I was wondering......would you mind if I asked your ages??? I am 47 and have only been running since February when I could not manage even the one minute in the C25K. I run for many reasons, to get fit, to help lift my mood, to help with the menpopause and hopefully even if I don't loose weight I don't want to put it on. I run very slowly and am very impressed with peoples goals to run half marathons. I will first try and get to 10K and then decide then, but I think in the spring I will have to do at least one proper run.

Sometimes I find the aches and pains hard. Being older I have lots of these just due to my age...but I think I have less than I would have if you see what I mean.:o If there was any other slightly older runners I would be interested to hear your experience or tips.

Me too Marru. I did the GNR and moved house in the same week. Since then I've only been out once to do a 10k - and that's it!

I have absolutely *no* motivation - even though my DH still runs regularly, I just cannot be bothered :o Defo need a large kick up the behind....feel free if anyone has a boot big enough :D
