I've not been for a run since the GSR as I seem to have been constantly ill since then, but better now and I have entered the Silverstone half in March so really have to get going. There is no way I'll complete that one with minimum training effort!

And to whom asked...Teachergirl I think...I'm 29 and have been running because wanted to for 2 years. I have had to run for a fitness test for the past 7 years but never enjoyed it and then entered a 10k in late 2008 and found out I could actually enjoy running. Just have a time forcing myself out the door.

Hello everyone! You're all back on here - great stuff!

My knees have started hurting after my run on Sat which is why I'm having a few days off to recover. Had no problems before this at all after 5mth running and now they are feeling a bit sore and swollen (don't look it but feel it)

Any advice? I got my new trainers around Sept and they are great and were for usual runners whatever the common gait is (I've forgotten! Outside heel and inside foot landing)

Want to carry on and get to 10K now I'm almost at 8K at it was all going so well. Started from 0K in June and got this far

    teachergirl - I started running again at 36 and now I'm 37

I'm 32, started running in autumn 2009 for fitness and because it's free! Tried to start it 2 years on the run before that but last year it fell into place. And 4 weeks ago started running in a more constructive and planned way doing 20 miles a week and now want to build on that. I want to get my 5k time down, do some fun 10k's like Hellrunner, Mudrunner, that type of thing and maybe think about doing a half mara sometime, but bit more interested in trail/fell running/ mountain marathons and stuff liket that and want to get my running fitness better so can do it when my bf gets better.

No runs for me this week yet. Monday is training night and yesterday I had the most boring long meeting which meant I couldn't get off work in time and then really had to go and do the weekly food shop. So tonight I'll go for a run before my friend comes for dinner.

  • Good evening everyone and thank you for your replies..though I am feeling a bit of a golden oldie compared to some of you. I decided tonight to tackle my belief that I personally cannot run at night. I ran to Robert Ullerys C25K week 8 + 2minutes.(I like the music best.) I thought it would be better to get one good run , than to struggle with three 15 minute runs. I made an early tea at 5.30pm and went out about 8.10pm. I made it:) I found it very hard work and my heart rate was much higher than when I run in the morning. When Robert said only one minute left I gave it a really good sprint. As I turned a corner I was confronted by about ten youths with hoodies and scarves to block out the cold. They stepped out of the way and I said "Thanks Boys." One of them said "thats alright miss":eek::eek: It was dark and I have no idea who it was:eek:Did they recognise me???
The verdict is also out on my "max wall trousers"(fedupandskint you are so right about them;)) They do feel warm but they are like getting a wet suit on and then bizarrely enough they felt like they were falling down. Also should anyone recognise me they are NOT flattering. BTW for some reason I thought you were much younger!
tirlittan, vixstar, wolvelass and macgirl I am really impressed with your running and hope that one day I will get to the 10K too and comfortably. Keep going everyone.:D

Ta for the kick Tirlittan ;)
I've been exhausted after moving and general work/family juggling. Plus the dark mornings and evenings make me want to hibernate. BUT...today I've decided that my lethargy is caused by my lack of activity, so this weekend I'm getting back on it, in an attempt to give myself a pre-Christmas boost! :j

Teachergirl I'm 40 and only started running about 5 years ago, so am a mere novice myself. I run for peace of mind primarily, but also to stay healthy.
I'd advise against running when ill. I always thought neck up = ok to run, but any illness below your neck and you should give it a miss. Then a friend said her personal trainer (don't you know) said that even with a cold you shouldn't run as it just pushes the infection further round your body..... For me, it has shifted colds etc, so I'm undecided.

Keep going with it you sound like you've been bitten by the bug :)
  • REALLY regret the five minute sprint this morning:( I may have looked like Paula Radcliffe last night but this morning I move like her Grandma!:rotfl:

Well done teachergirl on an evening run! I love running in the dark, don't know why, just find it really relaxing.

4.6miles for me yesterday. Not sure if I'm going to make the 4 runs, 20mi week this week, I think I'm feeling bit demotivated by last Saturday's park run result. Also feel sniffly and bit tired (though this usually only in the mornings) and I have two matches on Sunday so I might take this week as a cut back week and then start in earnest again next week. Not that I've quite decided how I want to carry forward. Build up the mileage or add some quality work, fartlek or something. Really not sure yet though thinking of going with the former.

    Keep running!

Well, I certainly didn't make a 20mile week last week. Went for 6.2mi run on Friday after work which was quite slow, 1:15:00, I did stop to give directions and one bit was really muddy/slippery and very dark but generally thought my pace was much faster. I think running in the dark definitely slows you down.Saturday morning I woke up with a bad back so no way I could've gone for a run and Sunday I had two matches which thankfully I was able to play.

This week I'll at least do my normal mileage but am also thinking about upping it by 10%. So do 3x 5mi and 7mi as a long run.
