5 miles yesterday, new route, felt I went quite fast though breathing was bit laboured. Got back and only did it in about 45minutes. :( I have no speed.

Hopefully everyone gets sorted with their marathon places soon. You crazy lot...:)

Right I'm back around after 3 weeks of flu, a week to recover then a week's holiday meaning I've had 5 out of 6 weeks off running

My last run was 4miles and I enjoyed it then I came down with a big dose of flu

now I've recovered I'm going back out there tomorrow otherwise I'll put if off again and then the weight will creep back on again

I'll be back on tomorrow to report how it went - might try a 5K first then build back up from there

    Hi Elantan,

I started in January with C25K and I really liked it.

My intention was to build up to half by mid October but have been injured most of the summer so that never happened.

Couple of books I highly recommend: Chi Running and Slow Burn

Also have a browse in runnersworld.co.uk forum and on that site there is this training plan tool where you can put your targets and then it gives you idea about your training. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll try have a look.

Oh and if you can sign up for races in the meanwhile like 3 miles to start with and then couple of 10 k to aim for it might motivate to keep you going better than one long term goal.

Good luck for tomorrow Sparkles. I am still not running - too much going on :(

Thanks Marru, nice to see you again my dear x

I dragged myself out for a 5K run this morning and it was quite tough after 4 weeks on no running not much exercise. Pleased I went out and did it even though I was tired while running

I'm sticking to 5K for this week and aiming for 3 runs this week then will reassess how I feel next weekend to see if I can increase back to where I was distance wise

I'll support you - including I can get to you different programmes. Are you a member of a gym? Just to figure out how inventive we can be with the circuits.

Have you seen 'Run, fat boy, run'? If not, please see it.

Ok, have not been her for sometime but this only because I did not have time to run and tell you about it at the same time. Sorry.
Today did about 13 miles - nice, sunny day in Manchester so running was nice albeit not cool (in the proper sense of cool). I am rather tired but this is how it is - I am not sure how am I going to run Lausanne marathon in three weeks time? On the other hand, the Universe is on my side - Hypno promised.

Keep well, people, and cool runnings.

Good luck El. If it makes you feel any better, I have a place in the London Marathon - 27 weeks today I think it is. I am at a similar fitness level to you :o

I know I could defer for a year, but really want to get on and do it.

I'll be watching for any tips and butt kickings you get, and sharing them with you :D

Hi everyone. I know i've not been on for quite some time...

And this time i come back with a very sobering pleas to everyone on here, and those who just lurk and dont post.

Today I have ran, and thank fully completed, the great East Run in Peterborough.

It was a very hot day with people fainting left right and centre. It was the misfortune of myself and other runners to see a poor man at the side of the road being given CPR and having the defibrillator used on him as he had gone into cardiac arrest. That man had ran to 12 miles, seemingly with no problem, and then collapsed. He had family waiting for him, whether that be at the finish line or at home. I also lost my best friend to a very sudden unexpected and never forecast cardiac arrest.

Guys, before you undertake ANY distance running event, Please please visit your GPs for a full check up. A half marathon is not a walk in the park, you only need to drive it in your car for it to hit home just how far it is. undiagnosed heart disease, poor training and other factors could push you over into a situation such as the poor man was in today. Please don't think "i've been fine this far!" my best friend was, and I would imagine the man today was also. else why would he undertake such an event?

For the sake of a run, your life is not a worthy sacrifice. Please PLEASE don't risk it.

    Stay safe, P xxx

How awful P hun. Fingers crossed he pulls through.

My DH doesnt want me to go ahead with the marathon for that very reason. I have had all the health checks - full ECG, blood tests etc. I had them before I did the 10k last year because my folks both died too young of heart attacks, the very reason I want to go ahead - to get fit, lose weight and raise funds for the British Heart Foundation :(
