very pleased to hear you have had all the tests hon. Sensible training and a steady increase in distance and you'll be fine. Sorry to hear about your parents and in that case i think you are doubly sensible to have the tests.debt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0

It's not like me to ever be sensible, but I needed peace of mind for every day life, as much as the running. They were only 38 and 46, so as I approached 40 last year, I felt I needed to know.Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

Pania, sorry to hear about your friend and the guy yesterday.
Spud, my hubby was very worried about me running marathons - but I did take a lond time to build up. Training before every event is vital - there are too many people who either don't train or don;t train systematically. And there are also people at races who don't stop when they feel they should.

Scary stuff people dropping off with no apparent reason...
But I'm sure if you'll do a sensible approach elantan you'll be fine and you'll be able to complete the marathon. Good luck with that. Personally I'm not too fussed doing that kind of distance but thinking about maybe doing a half mara next year. Think I need to start properly training though and not 'just' running.
Did 4 miles easy on Thursday and then mountain biking on Sunday. Hoping to get 3 runs in this week, maybe just a short one today, another 4 before training tonight.DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!Proud to have dealt with my debts!0 -

But I only have 6 months. I'm beginning to think it might be a good idea to defer til 2012 :cool:Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

spud 6 months is ample. its more about mind set than fitness at this stage. The training plans are all 13 weeks from beginner to more advanced, You have half the time again on top of that, you can do it hon, its just about confidence!!:Pdebt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0

5k run this morning - nearly got mowed down by a BMW sports car driver who swore at me at 5.45am - all I asked was why didn't you indicate so I could see where you were turning instead of not indicating.
Wonder what mood she was in for the rest of the day if she started it like that so early in the day?
Anyway back to the run - found it hard going and stopped for a 1minute walk towards the end.
Planning another 2 this week and then hopefully back to 4 miles at the weekendfinal unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -

Have you seen 'Run, fat boy, run'? If not, please see it.

thanks firewalker ...i do have a membership of a local gym ... and i have watched run fat boy run so i am good to go lol
marru thanks also i have got chi running and have been reading it for a wee while now (watched a couple of you tubes to back it up as well) and have been looking at the c25k site a few times ... i am hoping to do a 5k before xmas .... middle of december hopefully
now i have been watching the you tubes on chi running as i think /hope that if i get the technique right i can slowly build up speed (so i am going really slow right now ... slower than walking pace)
with the chi running you tubes and books etc it seems i have to run at 90 per minute i have a metronome and have been working on getting my arms swinging in time ... i can manage that with out too much difficulty but when i try and add my feet into the mix i get all confuzzled .... i have also been trying to get my feet to go into the positions they are meant to ie: not infront of my hips, heel to bum and round in a circular motion .... that is more difficult than i thought so i have tried to slow it all down but that doesnt seem to help ... i also have the issue of leaning slightly forward it doesnt seem to be going to plan either
so the plan lies as thus ... i am not doing too good but the starting point is there and i can only go upwards eh lol0 -
Elantan, you just need to measure your excisting step pace first and then gradually increase it from one week to another. My step rate is really slow and I struggle increasing and keeping my effort level the same without heart rate shooting through the roof. Just remember to tuck your bum underneath, straighten your spine and lean from your ankles the lean is really subtle."Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

thanks marrau ... silly question ...how do i measure my excisting step pace? ... and what is it?... this is all kinda new to me ... i have no doubt i will struggle and i know i have an awful lot to learn .... but i am determined to do it ...
i read what pania said and it is quite sad and scary ... i want to do this as safely as possible ... i have alot of weight to loose as well but i think it will be part in parcel of the preperation for the marathon ....
in my defense i do walk 8 miles on a wednesday and either tackle a hill of walk 12 plus miles on a saturday so although i am very over weight and i do live a sedentary lifestyle .... i still try and keep active where i can .... i used to do alot of hill climbing etc but this all ended when i was involved in a car accident a few years ago(roughly 5.5 years) ... it has taken me this long to be able to start getting back fit and i am hoping that giving myself a challenge like a marathon (and the west highland way in may) then it will help me get my fitness levels back
i am looking forward to it all tbh .... i am looking forward to being my healthy self again0
