I was not lucky with the ballot either. So may try the charity route- I do want to do it, just need to get out and train more. If not then i will get fitter one way or another.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

May I pose a question here? I have never been tempted to run London marathon. New York - yes. Boston - would love it. Next year I am probably going to do Berlin. If any of you guys would like to join me we can do Loch Ness together - glorious run, hard but very pretty; and I'll do it gladly with you!
Why I am never tempted by London? Or shall we try - what did attract you to London?

I did London waaay back in 1991 when I was challenged to by my dad. I wasn't really aware of other marathons at that time. But I did it, and loved it, and haven't done any other marathons other than London since. I just like the atmosphere, and I suppose because of the connection with my Dad it has that *something special* about it for me!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I've been offered the chance of a charity place with a £2000 minimum sponsorship, which kind of put me off....
Think I'll stick to half's. The Loch Ness one does sound up my street though, I like scenic and I prefer undulating/hills as opposed to flat pavements.

Loch ness sounds great- i quite fancy the Edinburgh one- but the scenery will be stunning at Loch Ness.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

It's not til next September Bob, so we can chill for a few months yet0

Edinburgh - not good. Flat as a pancake and not very interesting - also when I did it very hot and they run out of water. At the end I was given an unripe banana - took 48 hours to process.
Loch Ness - glorious. Only 1400 people run it - 1000 Scotts and 400 mad people from the rest of the world. Hard but so satisfying. If you are up for it next year we can have a date there and run it together - for charity and raise much needed funds (by then the Government would have killed the Welfare State, I believe).
Now off to the cinema - run about 8-9 miles; felt goog. Also have lost loads of weight (or inches or something) but feel much lighter and am very strong. Lausanne here we come...
