thanks marrau ... silly question ...how do i measure my excisting step pace? ... and what is it?... this is all kinda new to me ... i have no doubt i will struggle and i know i have an awful lot to learn .... but i am determined to do it ...

Get small electronic metronome, go out for a run and after 5 minutes turn the metronome on and adjust it to match your running pace. The cadence on the book is for every other step e.g. every time your righ foot hits the ground. I use cadence where I get beep for each foot strike. Meaning that if my cadence is 164 I should aim to 170-180 (85 to 90 times 2) by increasing it by 2 per week.

But I think first thing is to just go out there and concentrate on couple of things at the time and not try to do everything at once.

Ahhhh right so it's ok that I am not at 90 just now then .... Duh I am slow lol ... Phew that makes it better ... So I will find out what my pace is first and look to up it by two a week ... So much easier .... I hadn't understood that right when I watched it

I know it does seem like I am trying to do too many things at once doesn't it .... And I have no doubt that I am .... I was just thinking that it was best to concentrate on technique first .... And it kinda looked to me like you can't sort out the legs without the other bits ....

Back to the drawing board for me then

Thanks marru really appreciate all the help

I'm finding all this absolutely fascinating El . Never heard of it before, but have just been looking at the vids and it makes so much sense. I think the book might find it's way into my Amazon basket very soon ;)

You know, when we did cross country at school, once (and only once) I got it completely right. Not sure WHAT I did but I felt like I could've carried on running forever. I just seemed to find the right stride, rhythm, breathing etc and it felt so bloomin good :)
Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches

So sorry about your friend Pania :( But thanks for posting that. I saw a few ambulances attending people who had collapsed at the GNR - not good.

As you said though, provided you get checked out and train *steadily*, increasing the mileage gradually, then there is no reason to be fearful Spud or El. You'll both be great and will feel such a fantastic sense of achievement :)

Firewalker, you know you have nothing to fear - only fear itself. Lausanne will be an amazing experience and The Universe will be with you all the way.

For my sins, I have lost my running mojo.... I haven't been out since the GNR (although I did move house 3 days later) and really have no desire to :o
I really need to do something to motivate me, but now the dark mornings and evenings are here, I just want to hibernate (and eat stodge).
Think I need to enter a few races to give myself something to aim for.....well done everyone, inspiring stuff as usual x

Well my sporadic running sessions continued. Managed a slow but steady 4 miles yesterday and as usual felt great afterwards (so why is it such a mental fight to go in the first place?). Off out again tonight, same route and distance I think just to prove it wasn't a one off.

Bed news guys - I am going to see a podiatrist tomorrow. After my 13 miler last Sunday I was limping a lot yesterday and this should not be happening. I have trained wuite well although probably not enough. I know there is something wrong with these tendon and will have it checked.

And I really would not like to hear that this is it - I feel that there are more marathons in me; better still there is some ultra running to be done.

    Think of me tomorrow, please.
