Time for the update. As I suspected the next marathon is out of the question - I have quite severe inflamation of the Achilles tandon. It is not because I donlt stretch right (I do) but because I have been mildly pronating for sometime and because one of my hips is slightly longer than the other. If I miss the next marathon I can run many other marathons - this all can be corrected wonderfully with insoles. Cheap it is not going to be but even if we forget the marathons (which I don't want to forget) there is still the possibility that I'll be in severe pain and worse late in life. Who want this - I want to run when I am 80.

As to Lausanne - I will probably run a bit of it...And then there is always next year. And my next one will be a speedy grand performance...

Oh, that's not so good news firewalker. How long will you be out for? I'm sure there's many more marathons and runs for you if you treat it right now.

5k run this morning before work - went better today getting used to the distance after the month break. Might stick to 5k next week then start to increase from there

Will see how I feel at the weekend

Hope you're ok firewalker - sounds a bit painful, hope it stretches out and becomes painfree for you

Hey, gone quiet on here again. How's everyone doing?

I've always been an occasional runner, doing it for fitness for other sports rather than anything else. Been on the runnersworld forum recently and found a little bit more motivation so this week have started training properly. Autumn/spring have always been my best times for running as summer is just too busy with other hobbies/activities so good time to start now and hopefully bed the habits in. At most I've ever run 3 times a week and mostly one of these has been a park run so my mileage has never been more than 12mi/week.

This week is the first week of 20 miles per week. It's all easy running to build the mileage up for the next 4 weeks and get used to it, then will start putting some 'quality' work in as well. On Monday did 4.6mi in 48mins and Tuesday 5mi in 53mins. Another 4.6 and 6 miler to come later this week. Today I'm having a rest day.

That's great!! :T Don't think my body would cope with 20 miles a week :o

I did 5k yesterday and am now getting back to times when I was running more regularly. I hope to go to a parkrun at the weekend, too :)

Hope everyone else is staying motivated

Thanks lurkio. I'm sure your body would cope with it, it just what we put our minds into. Running so far has never been more than free cardio, but I realised I'm probably not going to get under 25:00 in park run unless I put bit more effort and training in. PB atm is 26:22. What's yours atm lurkio, low 20s isn't it?

    24.37 I think.

    *checks*

    yes, thats it :)

The problem was that I kept pushing myself every time I went out, so as soon as I stepped up to 3 times a week, I was getting into real trouble. I AM a complete amateur and really have NO idea about training plans, I just go out and run when I am able. Never done 2 consecutive days.....

    Probably need a plan, don't I....... :o

Depends what you want. I never was bothered about having a plan either, until now when I want to achieve a certain goal and realised I probably couldn't achieve it if I didn't have one. Random running/training only gets you so far. I started park runs last november.
    My progress as follows:
    21/11/09 - 28:07
    01/05/10 - 26:25
    18/09/10 - 26:38
    25/09/10 - 26:22
I'm hoping I can break 25:00 before this year is out but I'll only have one go (or maybe 2) after concentrated effort in training. If I doesn't happen, I'll keep on training and try next year again.

Looks like you're well on your way :T :T

You've just made me realise actually..... my.... I wouldn't call it lethargy, but..... is due to the fact that I don't have a target! I wanted to do a 10k (tick) and get under 25m for 5k (tick)......

I need a new target.
