I'd echo firewalker. Since I started running outside again, I just can't bare tredmills, they are so boring.
Didn't go for a run last night, instead did after work 13.5mi cycle trip instead before heading home. Was good and was happy with my 55minute time, thought it would've taken me longer.DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!Proud to have dealt with my debts!0 -
4 miles this morning as part of coastal relay (including 216 steps up to what I would call a steep hill). It was fantastic and not a single niggle form my shin :j"Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

I'm with everyone - once an outdoor runner treadmills are soul destroying. No running for me since Tuesday due to work and home commitments, but I'm going to do 6 miles in the morning and then 8ish on Sunday.0

It was hill training today. This time on a hillett that is more vicious than last Saturday's - 10 times up and down; untill my muscles were gently trembling with fatigue. Are we allowed to swap tips? Assuming we are here is "Firewalker's hill running technique':
1) Find a decent hill (taking about 2-3 minutes to run up);
2) Start running up leaning into the hill and shortening your stride;
3) Important part of the technique: spit on it.
Number three sound funny but it works - I managed to get a large group of people up a hill (during a race) by teaching them to spit.
Swimming for me tomorrow.

thanks for the advice ... wont bother with a treadmill then (save myself some money too ... result) so next silly question (i have loads) how many times a week should i run? and also how do i run on the balls of my feet and not my heels ... i seem to be running on my heels and have heard that aint right...
am slolwy getting through the chi running book (thanks firewalker)
i am really enjoying this running malarky ... the girl i am running with has an ankle injury so we are only running very short distances ... part of me wants to carry on and really stretch myself and see how far i can go (not very the lungs wont take it ) ... but we started this together and i am sure there will be times when i cant run as far0 -
Hi El,
to run safe:
1) build it up slowly (run 5 min; walk, run, walk - gradualkly increase)
2) do squats, press ups and sit ups - build 'infrastructure
3) to run on the balls of your feet - lean forward; move your legs when you feel as if you are going to fall;
4) practice - and be warned that when starting with this technique you will discover you have muscles you did not know existed (they hurt)
4) leaning forward also speeds you up because it uses inertia.

Hi El,
yes and no. The technique is similar but in chi running there is loads of mind as well - this is the part I would like to get to.
Forgot to mention - I think you can run three times a week, do other thing three time a week (circuits, resistence etc.) and rest one day (even God did). Just make sure that every week you do a bit more - without stress you don't get fit.
