Well the race is off :(
I'm absolutely gutted. I decided to do a test run to get the paper and as soon as I put on my trainers I knew. I decided to ignore the pain and see if it would be ok, but only got 100 yards and had to limp home. I'm sure it's not broken as I can bend it.....Gutted.

Ouch macgirl - that sounds painful - hope it heals soon

As for me, I did Run 2 from Week 6 this morning, not too bad but I was really hungry when I got back so have snaffled down 4 slices of toast and marmalade and a cuppa.

The next on is 25mins and I'm getting my head around doing this and not being frightened by the time and distance.

Just enjoy it - remember the first 10 minutes is always the worst! I only really start enjoying a run after the first 4 miles :)

I've just been reading about my toe - it looks like it might be broken, which I'm not bothered about, but I read it could take 4 weeks to heal
Which I AM bothered about, as I'm doing the GNR and need to ramp up the mileage.

Macgirl - ouch :( and so sorry for the race. Go and get it checked might not be as bad as you fear and heal sooner.

Sparkles - well done!! No need to worry about the next run as you have been able to do them all so far, just one step at the time :)

Wow- I've just found this thread as looking for some running motivation!

Not been running for too long and have just completed my first race!

Managed to run the 2010 Jane Tomlinson 10k in York this morning in 1hr 6m.....hoping to get this time down by the time I do this next year!

The exercise I've started doing (cycling and playing netball) has really helped my fitness and I'm chuffed that I ran the entire thing today!

    Evening fellow runners,

my heal still hurts - found the description of the condition on the net. It apparently is common in endurance runners and is a result of shortening of my calf muscles (and other things). The advice was to not run, not run hills and put ice in the morning and hot pack in the evening.

So here I am, with my heal on a hot water bottle - no running today. But did swim about 60-70 lengths - so not entirely lost to training day. Suppose will have to get ready for the marathon in alternative ways - ones that do not involve high milage but build character. Does anyone remember an article in Runners World about a chap who enrolled for training in a camp in Serbia and the training involved hardly any running but loads of restling and submerging in ice cold water - generally suffering. Worth I try me thinks...

hey all. welldone on all the running that is being done out there!! you guys are going great guns. i can see we have a load of radcliffes and gebreselaises in the making!!!well, 2 short runs for me today. one this morning with my whippet of a sister, about 3 miles in half an hour, on a hangover with trainers that felt like blocks of concrete!! and then a second this evening with the 2 gorgeous german shepherds, 2 laps around a ploughed field, one side of which was a steep uphill with freshly cut grass so very very slippery! the dogs loved it!! and i tried to sprint up the steepest part just before getting to the top. seeing my sister and having photos taken next to her today has shown me just how over weight for my height i am. i looked a right porker!! i'm 5'4 and currently weigh 10st 4lb but i have a very slight frame so ideally should be 8st 7lb. must must must step up the anti!!!
Is anyone up for a virtual run tomorrow evening?

Well done on the run and on the goals - 10K is good. A small comment about the gym - you probably don't need the gym but to stay healthy and injury free you need to do stregth training. Press ups, squats and pull ups do the trick - many of them.

    Thanks Firewalker

I've been wondering about that for a while and you've confirmed my suspicions about the strength training. Will take a look online for some circuit ideas

Fast two miles for me this morning - i.e. 2 minutes per mile faster than my normal training runs. Just felt like going for it and feeling so much better now :D
