  • 3 miles yesterday and planning on a bit more today. Hoping to get up to 6 miles by mid October.

fedupandskint - are you following a training plan? Sounds like you have everything sussed and I feel like I am faffing about not really getting anywhere so wondered if you were and if you would recommend it?

  • I am following a plan and its worked a treat!

I started with the Couch to 5K plan (itunes free podcast) to start running from scratch to 5K in 8 weeks - a great plan with great results from zero to 3miles in 2mths

I then moved onto the Podrunner Interval plan (itunes free podcast) to build up from 5K - 8K - 10K. Overall worked really well even though I had to take a couple of breaks for one thing or another. I used it from June onwards to build up from 8K to 10K again.

Now I've moved onto the speed and strength part of the podcasts -Ziggurat - to increase my slow pace to something better and run better and stronger.

Just back from the first run which was quite hard going to keep at the pace and I'm surprisingly tired! 45 mins today and next time will be 57 mins. Was very warm out there too and felt like the height of summer!

  • Thanks fedupandskint I will look into that, then :)

Only a teeny 1.5 miles - legs felt like lead...at least I got out there. I'll def get another 3 miles in tomorrow (I've said it now so I have to do it!)

Got my letter from VLM and didn't get a place. Not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed! I'll still apply for 2013 and maybe I will be more prepared ;) I think I'll concentrate on getting in a few 10k races and half marathons which might make me feel a little more ready! (I've never been in any race before)

Can't decide if I am going to do 3 miles or not today...I should really as I definitely won't get a run in on Saturday (going to London for the day) but I had already decided to rest today...I'll see :)

    Hi guys,

The plan is to run a 5k course down to about 20 mins, then lengthen the distance to 7.5km and run that down to 30mins and then 10km quick as I can then start doing some races?? No timescales just as it happens.

    Would love some feedback?

    Cheers, Daz.

  • Hi Daz :hello:

I have no idea if that is good or not, I'm rubbish at keeping organised with times and working out what is good or not so good :) At my best I was running about 9 minute miles for 3 miles but if I go further than that I tend to stick to about 10 minute miles...not sure if thats helpful or not. I haven't got a Garmin or anything to time each mile and I am usually on my treadmill, but plan to change that this autumn. I want to get my times faster hence I was asking fedupandskint about her training plan but first I have to build up my milage again.

Talking about my milage, I haven't been very well so my last run was Friday (3 miles) - I am planning another 3 miles today - wish me luck :)

    Hi LittleMissHappy,

I don't think they are too bad for an old man who hasn't got off the sofa for nearly three years!

I had a cracking run yesterday, managing negaitve splits for each km over the 4.7km, dragging the average km pace dowm to 5:17 per km but payed for it this morning and only managed 4km @ 5:32 per km, it is my third day in a row though!;)

I really want to be doing the 5.2km routes by the end of the week so shall have to find the extra strength from somewhere!

I can feel the progress as the last four runs have been done without stopping/walking at all.:j

I hope your little illness doesn't impact your effort too much today, good luck!:)

    Daz.

Just a light run this morning, 3.94km in 23:38 @ 5:59 per km. Hardly broke a sweat but the leggies were tired.

Rest day tomorrow with some stretches and strength excercises, full rest day Friday, 5.2km Saturday and to finish the week Sunday of rest with stretches.

From Monday will be falling into line with "Time-to-run"'s 5km programme, day 1, wk3.

It might be worth you checking this one out too LittleMissHappy, so you have a comparative against the suggestion above.

Will check back on the weekend after my 5.2km run!

  • Ok, yesterday I tried fartlek training......did 1.6 miles in 15 mins going 8mph for about 1 - 1 and half minutes and then recovery (getting my breath back!) then did it again. Thought I was going to die. Things can only get better

No running today, will do an easy 3 miles tomorrow ;) (yes, it will be easy!)
