Great 'MoneySaving Apps' Hunt

I use the free trainline app for train timetables, which is free, but as someone said above, the national rail app (£4.99) adds live departures, platform numbers etc. Didn't really want to pay but knowing the platform my train is on as I'm walking to Waterloo would come in very useful (I'm a commuter who times the journey from desk to train seat by the second!).
Anyway I was saved, as my brother told me about trainhound which is a webapp which has live departure boards. Awesome!0 -
Great thread - got an Iphone recently, and now couldn't live without it
Paypal, Natwest etc would be really useful apps to have, but am a bit worried about security when logging on to these sites. Anyone got any views on this? Or am I worrying unnecessarily?
thanks

Hi Pam
I don't think it's worth the risk. I'll quite happily have Facebook, Twitter and the like on my phone; they don't cause me any financial worries if my phone gets hacked, lost or stolen. I won't have anything on there, however, that relates to bank or payment information and certainly don't save passwords or bank details on there. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
The best free train application is the one from crosscountry trains. I think in the iPhone app store it is called Train Search. It is also available as a Java app for most other phones.

It is a shame that there is no Android application.
On another note developers can save money by making their applications for multiple platforms simultaneously. They can use a framework like Rhodium or Appcelerator Titanium.

Doh. It isn't called Rhodium but rhomobile.
For crossplatform phone development see:

The Natwest one is similar as you need to set up a PIN (not the same as your card, as it's 5-8 digits) before you are able to log in and it does a validation link before you are able to access your account. You can't actually move money around with the Natwest one, as it's for information only. The screen tells you the connection is secure.
I also have the Passcode set up on my iPhone, so that others aren't able to access my data without it.
Overall I'm confident that my data is secure through the apps mentioned above.0 -
stop panicking. I am not allowed to post links so i removed the www. from the front. The crosscountry trains app is easily as good as the National Rail app but free. Save yourself the £4.99. This thread is supposed to be about moneysaving apps.
(and BTW CrossCountry Trains are a rail operator (like LondonMidland, and Virgin), their details are all over the site. I do not work for them but travel with them on a daily commute. I used to use their Java app all the time on Windows Mobile but I now have an android phone and do without).0 -

anyway reviews from multiple android websites say that if you dont want to miss trains or want to know the exact platform etc then that there is nothing else to beat the trainline app but it is a paid version. i dont use that app by the way, i use a free app called traintimes uk, my wife uses that too, there are a couple of other free ones which i have mentioned in this thread in earlier posts. have a nice day.bubblesmoney :hello:0
