For Android the best money-saving app I've found is 'No to 08'

It's already saved me at least £15-20 when I've had to call numbers beginning with '08' a couple of times with long waiting times.

When you key in an '08' number and press call, it automatically brings up your primary internet browser and gives you a list of alternative numbers - it doesn't have all of them, but for the price of free it's a must have!

I'd happily pay for this one.

British Gas (iPhone) - Allows you to submit online meter readings to avoid estimates.
IKEA UK - Plan your purchases before you go to avoid buying unnecessary extras
Growyourown - RHS app with gardening advice (useful for that moneysaving veggie patch)
RedLaser - Already mentioned but currently free (I think). Awesome price comparisons from barcodes.
iBooks - Several free titles and others can be imported via iTunes
TV Guide - Not exactly a moneysaver but can put programmes into your calendar to organise your time
also known as The Sausage King

MyGas is a good app, shows you where your local petrol station is but it also give you thier prices. Hopefully it will save people some money

Clubcard - tesco club card on your phone so you will always be able to get your points

Redlaser - reads barcodes and looks for the cheapest price online for you.

fatfingers - Ebay spelling mistake app. type in what your looking for and it will look on ebay for auctions which have spelling mistakes. Again it might save some moeny

Vouchercloud - download vouchers to your phone to get money off in restrurants etc.

Subcard - if you like Subway this is another one for you. You get points each time you go and after you have collected a certain amount of points to get a free 6" subway

Spendometer - if you are watching the pennies this is one that might be helpfull. Everytime you spend you enter it in and it will tell you how much you have spent and what you have spent it on so you can then see where you can cut your spending.

For Android phones (I use the below on my HTC Desire)

3g Watchdog - keeps tabs on your data usage during a specified period, helping to ensure you do not go over any supplier specified data limits.

Opera Mini Browser"- The following is quoted from the Opera website..."Opera is the smart choice for browsing on expensive wireless data plans. Using Opera to browse the Web with your mobile phone can save you money on your phone bills, by reducing your data usage substantially. Opera Mini uses only a tenth of the bandwidth of other browsers, compressing Web pages by up to 90%. On Opera Mobile, turning on Opera Turbo compresses data up to 80% or leave Opera Turbo off to get full Web site data, as you would on a PC.

I can vouch for the usage stats quoted, it really does help your data allowance go further

nokia is itself dumping the symbian operating system and their other system is too new for decent apps, so dont hold your breath on any great apps for symbian from now onwards.

UK National Rail Train Departures
Live Train Departure Boards. If you use trains, then you need this.
search?q=pname:com.ktbm.nationalrail
also http://htcapps.com/london-tube-status-for-htc-free/

National Rail
Not Free unlike the app above, but for sure worth the money i am told. Looks better and a few more options.
search?q=pname:com.croworc.nationalrail
although i have another free app called train times uk and have a widget on one of my home screens that shows my fav stations train departure times, always available at the click of a button. useful for being in time for the next train and not waste money on taxis.

if you want to watch tv in bed and dont have a bedroom tv then try ... beebPlayer
Plays BBC iPlayer TV programmes, live TV channels and live radio
search?q=pname:uk.co.johnsto.android.beebplayer

now the above is not available on the market but available elsewhere if you look.

otherwise there is another alternative called myplayer. but watch the data usage on both the above apps. i dont feel the need for a bedroom tv now! plus when the other half is hogging the tv i can watch topgear etc on my mobile.

why pay for ringtones when you can make your own. Ringdroid
Allows you to create ringtones and sms notifications from any mp3s on your phone, quality app.
search?q=pname:com.ringdroid

or on htc phones like the desire, htc has a similar feature preinstalled.

if google goggles does not work for photos of books or cds then try SnapTell
Snap a picture of the cover of any book, DVD, CD, or video game and within seconds get links to Amazon, Google, YouTube, Wikipedia, IMDb, eBay and more. For those times a barcode isn't available.
search?q=pname:com.snaptell.mobile.client.android

Key Ring: scan your loyalty and other membership cards. Then use this app instead of carrying a bunch of membership cards around.

Calltrack to keep track of my calls (logs to my google calendar)

PayPal
by PayPal Mobile search?q=pname:com.paypal.android.p2pmobile

i have included some QR codes for people who know to use the qr codes for easy downloading of the apps using either google goggles or barcode scanner (from xzing ) for scanning the QR codes to get the apps directly.

you can earn money by just using your mobile and giving mobile usage pattern statistics to nielson and earn money / vouchers upto 50£ a year http://androidbloke.co.uk/2010/06/30/earn-money-with-your-android-phone-and-nielsen/

edit: i have now deleted the neilson app which allows you to earn money for providing usage patern of phone data. the app itself is badly designed and although slightly more than 1mb in size initially, after a little more than a month of use its data had swelled to a bit more than 40mb and it stores it on internal memory only and no way to transfer to sd card even with froyo update and was taking up 1/3 of available memory on my htc desire so deleted it. ood idea but but lousily designed software by a worldwide leader in market statistics so uninstalled as i prefer more internal memory than money for feedback!
