Its not so much of a money saver but useful (and free) for the iphone
Sky+ - you can programme your Sky + box whilst out and about if you are going to miss a programme you want to watch - it also comes with a complete telly guide
iphone.tvcatchup.com - you can watch any freeview programs as they are broadcastSee the stars they’re shining brightEverything’s alright tonight0 -
Some more moneysaving apps for iPhone:
1 FishText is a great app for anyone who regularly sends texts abroad. Send the text through the app costs between 1p-5p per text (most networks don't include international texts in any monthly allowance and charge 16-20p). The texts appear to come from your own number, there is no advertisting, the service is very reliable, and replies to your texts go straight to your iPhone messages inbox. The app is free and they give you 20p worth of credit to try it out. You will then need to top up via SMS or Paypal (£5 min) but at these prices, the credit lasts for ages!
It's also great if you regularly exceed your monthly text allowance - you can use the app to text to UK numbers for 2p per text (10-12p per text from your network if you use up your allowance).
It works on other platforms too - see www.fishtext.com for more info.
2. Postcards is a cool app that lets you take a photo on your iPhone, choose a contact from your address book, write a message and they will print and send a postcard of your photo and message! It costs 99p to post to UK addresses, £1.49 to send internationally. More lasting and personalised than an MMS (or handy for sending to people who can't receive them), and a good price compared to buying a postcard & stamp.
3. Not really an app, but save a shortcut on your homescreen to the Apple app store from your favourite cashback site. Use this whenever you buy an app, rather than going direct to the app store, and effortlessly earn cashback on your purchase! I use TopCashback, which pays 5% on all purchases made through iTunes, including apps. To do this:
- open Safari on your iPhone and navigate to the cashback site
- login to the cashback site and then search for iTunes
- when the result page is displayed, zoom in on a part of the page that you will recognise (a logo works best)
- click the + icon at the bottom of the Safari browser on your iPhone
- select 'add to home screen'
- enter a name for the shortcut and click 'add'
- a link to the page is added to your home screen for easy access
NB. Check that you are logged in to the cashback site when you use the shortcut to ensure that your cashback tracks!0 -
iPhone app - Clear Your Mortgage Calculator - will help determine mortgage costs and also tell you how much money you can save over the life of your mortgage if you pay just a little extra each month. Costs 59p on the app store, but definitely worth it, has saved me 1000's0

Thanks so much for that tip re topcashback and itunes. I use both, yet had never thought to buy my apps via the site, didn't know I could. That will save me quite a sum.

These are iPhone apps, all free:
Traffic Eye - http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/traffic-eye/id361406719?mt=8 - Free traffic CCTV images from Highways and TfL
My Car Check - http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/mycarcheck/id344478255?mt=8 - checks registration numbers to vehicle type, colour and for an in app fee mileage data etc
Power Downloader - http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/power-downloader/id344076810?mt=8 - lets you download videos to replay later on when out of wifi range (don't think it'll work with iPlayer!)
Discover - http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/power-downloader/id344076810?mt=8 - lets you store PDF's, documents, videos on your iPhone - you connect to the phone through web browser and upload them to the phone. Not quite as convenient as memory stick.
AcrossAir - http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/acrossair-augmented-reality/id348209004?mt=8 - search for local businesses using variety of web searches and display them on screen as signposts set against the camera image (3GS and 4G only)
Fring - http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/fring/id290948830?mt=8 - I use this to send Twitter DM's to my other half instead of texting her - free. Also can be used to setup a SIP account for VOIP calling over 3G - free calls between SipGate customers (sipgate.co.uk) using bundled 3G data.
Finally there is a free BBC news app which is only available in app stores outside the UK, not impossible to create a new account and have the app sync to your UK phone and UK account, it's a nice app (instructions on how to create the US account for free app purchase here).0 -

So if you have downloaded a travel app which uses the internet to collect data whilst you are on holiday, expect a rise in your bill - even if you have not made any calls!
There is a cunning way around this.
Check the app does not need the internet AND download before you go! Digi-guide - who have GPS travel app guides to many European cities (Paris, Barcelona, Edinburgh, Seville...) put all the content directly onto your phone and using GPS does not cost money. So when you arrive at your destination, switch on and start sight seeing!
Save time - you will find and get to what you are looking for quicker
Save money - no roaming charges (or taxi as you can find places yourself)
And as they have all been written by locals - get the inside information on the very best places to visit.
Enjoy and save money!
sorry to be dim but does this mean when i look up my currency convertor app while abroad to check prices i will be charged??0 -
You will be charged for the data if the app makes use of the net connection which it might do to refresh the currency rates. On the iphone if you turn "data roaming" off within "settings, general, network" it will not make the connection.0

Might be best to state iPhone in the title as I was going to recommend a load of Android apps. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.
