    Something to try!...

I had a problem last year accessing my current account online with A&L. The solution for me was as follows:-

(I also have a linked savings account with the online system so it may only work if you have the 2)

Go into the online system and click "add or remove accounts", click the tick box next to your current account and click next. On the next screen then click confirm to remove your current account.

Wait overnight (ie 12am to 7am) while the systems update overnight. Then log back in and add the account back on.

If it doesn't work I'm sorry but it did work for me!

Perhaps, but most of us can't even log in. I get an error message...and have done for over 1 month...I complained and got a letter saying they'll credit my account £30...but how am I to know if they pay or not, i can't log in!
We have been unable to log you in on this occasion. Please try again.
Should you continue to experience this problem please contact the Helpdesk on 0844 800 11 44 for assistance quoting reference - DELETED (if calling from outside the UK please dial +44 870 900 1199, or dial 0844 800 50 50 if using a Textphone).

I'm afraid that doesn't work on this occasion, nice idea - but no prize. The problems seem to stem from attempts to migrate A&L accounts to the Santander system.... the number of problems seem to be varied and many. I can log on (unlike Cheesedoodles) but can't see all accounts. I can't use telephone banking, as my ID is apparently not recognised (but this is the same one as for internet banking) - so even that route through doesn't work. Others have had data incorrectly migrated - such as addresses or direct debit details. You can spend ages on the phone and receive 'guarantees' that it will be fixed in 24 hrs, 5 days, or after the weekend....... but so far , for me personally, no success.

10 days since I tried to put £3,500 into my daughter's account. Not only did they take this from my own A&L account, but also from an account (A&L) shared with my husband. My daughter received £7,000.

She offered us a cheque for £3,500 but my husband will not accept it - he is determined to hold A&L/Santander to account for this gross error.

Repeated phone calls have been a waste of time and nothing has happened. Lots of promises, some discourtesy ("Recover it yourself") but no action.
  • My mother banks with Alliance and Leicester (sorry, Santander!) and after reading this article in the Mail:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/article-1307005/As-Santander-goes-meltdown-customers-wave-bank-goodby-enough.html

    she's now worried.

    Should she be?

She is still able to access her accounts online, etc (so far!).

For her (and others) should it just be a case of sticking with them and hope for improvements in their admin and customer service? After all, now this has been highlighted in the press and is supposedly being addressed by Santander, PERHAPS things will gradually improve?

Cynical beggar that I am, I'm not so sure ..........
  • Stupid question, but how do you work out the statement period of your account? Is the date on which interest is paid into the account (in my case 9th of the month) the end of a statement period?

I used to just transfer the £500 at the beginning of the calendar month, but after being charged a £5 underfunding fee for one month I'm now more wary. The fee was a mistake as I HAD paid the right money in, and I had it refunded no problem, but I want to make sure I'm never charged the fee again for any reason.

Personally I'd be more concerned about her reading the Daily Mail and very worried if she actually belived what they wrote or belived the quotes from Santander about improving !;)

At last, this morning I can see my mother's current account, which has been 'missing' for the last 5 weeks :j. I hope that everyone else who has been experiencing similar problems also gets them solved.

I am getting totally fed up with this bank, after hounding them last week about Fast payments not going through on Friday I finally got someone to admit that there was a problem and that it would be fixed shortly.

Phoned up this morning and explained the situation the adviser knew nothing of the problem and right back to square 1 we went, the usual crap off less than £300 per day and to a payee you have paid before, I said I had done all this but everything is going through as BACS, so she told me to try it again and if that didn't work we could have to report a problem.

So tried it and once again didn't go through, so I phoned again and once again we went over the usual less than £300 garbage, however this time we ended with the excuse "Aw its a bank holiday" which again is total and utter rubbish

    "FAST PAYMENTS ALL YEAR ROUND
The service is available every day of the year, including weekends and Bank Holidays. Standing Orders will be sent on working weekdays only within the Faster Payments timescales and limits. While most payments are almost instant, some transactions, such as credit card payments, may take longer to reach the account."

I am so annoyed as am waiting on a new bank card to come for over a week now and have no access to money :(

Yes, this greatly concerns me too. The Daily Mail is a rubbish 'newspaper' but she laps it all up with the greatest relish. But anyhow, that's OT ............. :)

I believe they are going to lose quite a few customers over this fiasco, I have never had an issue with them and have been very please with the service received up until now.
