A & L migration to Santander

Oh dear, I'm so glad I don't bank with them. Today I've received a cheque from a local monthly draw as I've won it this month. The cheque they've given me is from the monthly draw account held with the Alliance and Leicester Commercial Bank.
I do hope it clears without any hiccups. I've never won anything in it before and it would just be sods law that when I do the A&L / Satander problems would pop it's head up !0 -
I am in similar situation. We only got an A&L a/c last year and they got our a/c working online, but only ever 3 out of 4 of my father's for whom I have poa, by the time I was "successfully" migrated to Santander.
Since our "successful" migration, we retained access to ours a/c thank goodness, but I lost access to my father's *current* account and still didn't have access to the one they'd never got working anyway ...
I have to keep going to the ATM to check what's in his account. I have spent hours on various calls to the (not) help-line and (clueless) telephone banking staff. I put a formal complaint in a while back and have had the standard acknowledgement back.
Words fail me. It is appalling. :mad:misterfish wrote: »Just had a reply to my follow up complaint letter to A & L - merely a holding letter 'we'll get back to you'. No acknowledgement that this concerned an ongoing complaint.
One thing I have found that lets me have less frustrating access to basic details of the current account is to use an ATM to do a balance query. I get no details but at least know if there is adequate funding to pay bills. On the other hand there is no easy way to get any info on the linked savings account (other than a telephone marathon).
As i mentioned before, our own accounts that were also transferred worked perfectly - it's all (still) so frustrating.

I've been on the phone to them several times today regarding transferring money out, they really are a joke, They don't know what they are talking about.. I came off the phone in a temper, I have an old Natwest account, I think I am going to start using that, Santander are hopeless, I should add I had to go into the branch today in the end to get money out and they are worse again0

I used to do a lot of business with Abbey National. They were great.
However, times change. They became ‘Abbey’ and things deteriorated somewhat.
They became Santander and… well what on Earth happened? The staff in our local branch all became brain transplant donors overnight.
I asked them for details of their Spanish banking and they could not provide a thing. Brochure: no. Phone number: no. Web reference: no.
Welcome to SANTANDER, one of the world's largest banks... So being large is good?
In short, a disaster on a grand scale surely?0 -
Have any A and L customers had any compensation offers yet?
I have had £10 put into my account, but this is a joke, compared to the costs I have incurred
As soon as I receive decent compo,I am off to another bank, if I can find one that Santander is not buying0 -
I got a letter where they said they would credit me 30 pounds....But i don't know if it's actually been credited. BECAUSE I HAVE NO ACCESS TO MY ACCOUNT!!! (sorry for shouting)
On another note....I'm now fully up and running with First Direct!!! Breath of fresh air. It's all gone smoooothly so far. Internet banking is up and running.....i even get text alerts for free to notify me of my balance every monday..or when i go below a user defined limit.....GREAT!
Once all direct debits etc are transferred it's Hasta Nunca Crapander (translated, Goodbye Forever Santander!).0 -
I had to go in store today to get money out, I stood for 1h 10min, it was a total joke, people were qued out the door and down the street and the staff didn't seem to care, they had 1 cashier on while the others faffed about in the back round0

Hi, Just wanted to let you know that you are not the only one. My account address has been changed by Santandar. My statements went to the wrong address and had been opened, resealed and put back in the post.
After advising the customer help desk I was sent a letter of apology........................ Unfortunately it went to the wrong address.0 -
Am in same boat. Address changed to a different town and different postal code. Received letter of apology yesterday. It was sent two weeks ago. Unfortunately it went to the wrong address.
