  • Telephone banking doesn't work either...I tried. I was put through to an advisor..had to go through all security options only to be told my account is inaccessible by telephone AND online.

If I need anything done I have to go to the branch!!

I used the debit card yesterday to get some cash out...At least that worked!
  • 2 weeks and counting

no phone access, no internet access, no customer service, no call backs, no help, no migration, no progress

haven't a clue of the state of my account, can only hope all ok

Well, well, well. Called into the A&L branch today and I had the attention of the branch manager for half an hour. She said she would follow up and call me back by close of business, and she did. She left me a message, and then as I was trying to return the call she was calling again. Sorted. She's followed it through and got the money put back into my account. Finally I can at least consider that I don't need to go claiming for over £2k through the small claims or (heaven forbid) the "Ombudsman".

Now, back home from work, I think about all the stress of these last 3+ weeks trying to get my money back. All the time on the phone (well over an hour) and over an hour in branch too (three visits in total due to this issue)

Ok, branch staff... deserve a medal for the stinking poor quality and sometimes clearly non-existent backup they have obviously got to cope with. However, that's not my fault is it?

I await a letter from their "Group Customer Relations" with interest. Yes I do have my £2000 back, but peoples' time is money and we shouldn't have to go through all this pain (not as well as our own problems like moving home, which must rank top of the stress list!!!!)

So I'll update when we see what they say. I feel just getting my money back is not really a closure to this matter, though credit to the branch manager for sorting that out in my thrid visit to their high street location.

Sympathy goes to everyone in the dreadful situation of being out of control of your finances. A bank that does this to people really needs to get a grip, fast (faster than 24 days anyway).

I'd also like to say thanks for the post above showing the address of the website with info on how to get your money back through the courts. It seems like it is the only way sometimes, to threaten or actually begin a legal process. Best wishes to you all.

Still do not have access to 5 of the 6 accounts I hold with A&L, been this way for over 4 weeks now. I have sent two secure messages; 1st they took 5 days to respond to the second which I said was a formal complaint, took 10 days. I have phoned 4 times, the last time to the complaint line which I was on hold for over an hour before getting bored and had stuff I needed to do elsewhere.

I have also written a formal letter of complaint which I posted on Tuesday.

The reply to my second secure message has been received today and all they did was apologise and note my formal complaint and that they will contact me within 5 days.

Getting very bored with this now...

They are a joke. I'm switching to my Citibank account.
  • I have just tried to sign into my A&L account and after putting my customer ID in, it is saying that the site is down for the weekend for maintenance. Anybody who has been switched over to Santander, is this what comes up when they are taking your account over or is everyone getting this at the moment?
    Thanks for any info.

I can't answer your question, but I tried to log in earlier and got that message. I'm an A&L customer as well.
