I don't understand this falling on hard times... if a woman isn't in a position to raise a child, she ought to be making damn well sure she is fully on top of her contraception or be able to get herself in a responsible position quickly. Ie have a good maternity plan or loaded parents to fall back on. It's not as if we don't know where children come from now is it? Of course men should be looking after what pops out, but ultimately women have first and foremost got to look out for themselves.

Even the most basic biology lesson, shows that it takes two to make a baby. How very sexist of you to think that contraception is a womans job.

Besides, not all pregnancies are planned, huge numbers even involve failed contraception. Would have thought that was obvious.

Again, another poster equating procreation with wealth. "Loaded parents" indeed.
All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.

Not sure if it's a troll post or not, but benefit of the doubt.

    You will get...

Child benefit of £20.30pw (Has been frozen for 3yrs)
Child tax credit of £54.73pw (Baby element of tax credits will be scrapped in April 11)
You will get a 1 off surestart maternity award of £500 to buy some of the babies goods, pram, cot etc
You will qualify for a £190 health in pregancy grant payable after 25wks pregnant. (This is being scrapped at the end of this year)

You will get £64pw in income support, you will also qualify for council tax benefit and housing benefit.

So that equates to around £140pw in your hand and living rent and council tax free. Quite a significant drop in income if you are used to a £25k income.

And of course maintenance from the father of the child, which wont affect your benefits ! free prescriptions, eye care, dental care...

Of course contraception fails, but as with how babies are made, I'd think most women are aware of that possibility, hence be open to other alternatives (ie, adoption/abortion/abstinence).

I don't think it's sexist to be responsible. Don't pick and chose what you respond you, you can see all well and good that I noted men should be responsible. But a woman can't guarantee that. She can guarantee however, what happens to her body.

PS, how would you look after a child without money? We're all here for a reason...

And when one creates a topic titled "PLEASE HELP!!!! Benefits??"... you're hardly going to get MSEers running in with open hearts and minds looking to sympathise. The OP has quite rightly recognised kiddies do require a bit of the old 'wealth' stuff.

No, you just *think* women should be more responsible than men. Which is sexist.

Sexism is sexism, however you dress it.

That reason is to create wealth is it? Someone better go tell all the other species they're doing it wrong. They have to get rich first.

Face facts. Humans are biological beings, and do not require wealth to procreate.

That we have evolved a society in which the more wealth you accumulate grants you greater material possessions is neither here nor there. As a species, everyone can still be fed, regardless of wealth. Wealth just guarantees better food for some.

Babies only require "wealth" in terms of the society we have created for them.

It has no bearing on procreation as to a persons wealth, nor should it.

Maybe so. Like I say, number one comes first.

Until men give birth I'm likely to stick to my sexist views. And I really can't make head nor tail of you point about wealth.

That is unsurprising. Carry on equating the right to procreate with the size of your bank balance then. No one really cares, tbph.

Ditto your sexism, just glad it was pointed out to you, that sexism is all what you had to offer this thread.
