I agree, but sadly today so many young women do not think it important for child to have two loving parents and as far as a means of support goes, well there is always the benefit system. When I look at the relationship my son has with his Dad, there is nothing quite like it.
.
Too many young women? I'm pretty sure men play a part somewhere along the line. Maybe the woman wants the child to have two loving parents, but the father of the baby is not interested in raising a child, or is not a suitable person to raise a child ?'Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans'-John Lennon

Not sure if it's a troll post or not, but benefit of the doubt.
You will get...
Child benefit of £20.30pw (Has been frozen for 3yrs)
Child tax credit of £54.73pw (Baby element of tax credits will be scrapped in April 11)
You will get a 1 off surestart maternity award of £500 to buy some of the babies goods, pram, cot etc
You will qualify for a £190 health in pregancy grant payable after 25wks pregnant. (This is being scrapped at the end of this year)
You will get £64pw in income support, you will also qualify for council tax benefit and housing benefit.
So that equates to around £140pw in your hand and living rent and council tax free. Quite a significant drop in income if you are used to a £25k income.0 -

I haven't been slating you but there's nothing wrong with giving ALL your options a careful consideration, even when you then reject some of them.0 -

To some people abortion is not and never will be an option and they should not have to justify that to anyone.Oldernotwiser wrote: »I haven't been slating you but there's nothing wrong with giving ALL your options a careful consideration, even when you then reject some of them.

Nobody has to justify anything to anybody but there's no harm in encouraging people to consider all option rather than to have a kneejerk reaction.
We could rewrite this post as "I am on my own, I have just lost my job and I am homeless. I am considering getting a puppy - what do you all think?"
It might be interesting to see how many people considered this to be irresponsible!0 -
Harsh but fair home truths coming out here, gosh I love this forum! If abortion is out of the question, adoption could be looked at?0

You just don't get it to some people abortion is untenable and is therefore not an option to be considered.Harsh but fair home truths coming out here, gosh I love this forum! If abortion is out of the question, adoption could be looked at?
i agree that adoption can often be a solution that many don't think of.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Utter rubbish.
If you cared a hoot for womans rights, you would concentrate your vitriol on fickle fathers. Instead you expect a 20 year old, who has fallen on hard times to bear the brunt of the trauma that your suggestion would cause, with possibly zero effect on the other parent.
She has stated she wants the baby. Since when did encouraging pregnant woman to abort their babies by installing fear of an imagined future of benefits, which may not even happen, become "fighting for womans rights"?
You may be from the generation that fought for womens rights (Ridiculous in itself, as EVERY generation - still to this day - has had cause to fight for the rights of woman), but I bet you were dutifully making your husbands tea when women were out burning their bra's.All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -

Of course, that's a novel idea. Perhaps we could set up *special homes* in which to send our embarrasing young pregant single women, and have their babies removed at birth.
Or alternatively we could set up workhouses, so if they insisted (using those pesky human rights laws) on keeping their babies, we could work the pair of them to early death instead. All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -

I was in my job for 2 years straight out of college my role within my job was at a executive level earning in exess of £25,000! I have paid taxes and ni!!!!
I wasnt planing on starting a family so have no real savings like most 20yrs I was enjoying my earnings. I left my job in unusal circumstances which I wish not to go in to.
With my partner for over a year, he is very much staying in the babies life.
I don't want to be living on benifits atall but I also don't want to get rid of my baby!! So if that means requiring some help for a short time before I return to full time work so be it.
I came on here asking for advice and help on money not for people to judge me and slate me and tell my to consider a abortion!!!!
Don't pay any attention to the self-righteous half-wits that frequent these boards.
Nor do you have to justify yourself to any of them.
They say your post all they read was "20" "Pregnant" "Single", and low-and-behold the bandwagon is full. They have managed to demonstrate ageism and sexism all in one go, what with the patronising "next 6 years on benefits" to completely ignoring the fathers role in all of this. Wonderful. All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0
