Tesco Carrier Bag Policy

I re-used some old carrier bags in Tesco the other day, but I had to ask the cashier to put the points on. But he only gave me 1 point for 4 bags.
The second time I went in, I pointed out to the cashier before I started packing that I was re-using bags, again she only gave me 1 point for 4 bags.
Then, on Thursday I went to Tesco but had forgotten to take some old bags, but the cashier gave me a point anyway.
It says on the signs in Tesco that you get 1 point per bag re-used, so why am I only getting 1 point?!!?! :mad:0 -
Just to add - you don't get green points on self service tills.
It is on the hanging signs in very small print, but I didn't notice it until the staff member pointed it out. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I use a box for my shopping. Depending on which check-out operator it is I get between 2 and 4 points for it. Never had to ask (yet!) they just put them on! :j0

What you need to do is to collar a member of staff and they can put your points on afterwards.....alterntively, go to customer services and say that your green points have been forgotten and can they put them on for you.
I did this and got double points for my trouble!2014 Target;

Blimey, it's not just me then! Here is my complaint, sent to customer services & CC'd to Terry Lehay (director) today :
Dear Sirs
I would be grateful if you could clarify your new "green" carrier bag policy for me.
I was under the impression from your television adverts that as long as I use "anything" other than a carrier bag you would reward me for it. As I generally do not tend to take carrier bags unless I have no alternative I was pleased to see this idea. However, I have repeatedly shopped in both the Hurst Road West Molesey Surrey Store & the Walton Road East Molesey Surrey store and on only 2 occasions have I been given a green point and both times only after I requested it.
I use a basket at the base of my sons' pushchair for most of my shopping so have no need to put items in a bag at all. The first time, soon after your "green" promotion started, I failed to receive any points so went to customer services to clarify the policy, they apologised & explained that the check out operator has a list of options on the till regarding bag use but using a pushchair was not on it. As your adverts (humorously) promote using wheelbarrows, suitcases & saddle bags as alternatives, why is a pushchair, far more common than a wheelbarrow for shopping, not a viable option for your check out operators? The second time I again went to customer services where 2 members of staff proceeded to have a very vocal disagreement about whether I was entitled to a green point as I had not, technically, re-used a carrier bag. I left in embarrassment. Since then I have encountered at least 5 different check out operators who have told me that I must re-use an actual carrier bag to qualify for green points, even though I pointed out to them that an elderly person’s wheelie shopping trolley is on their list of options and this is not a carrier bag. I have also highlighted you television advert to them, one told me she was unaware of any advertising on the matter, another told me "but that's just so you know about it, it doesn't really mean anything".
Today I was with a friend who re-loaded over £80- worth of items from the check out straight back into her shopping trolley with the intention of packing them directly into her car boot, bag free. She was, rather rudely, told by the check out operator that this did not qualify for green points. She therefore made the check out operator wait for payment whilst she then re-packed all her shopping in to carrier bags to make a point. The people behind us in the queue actually applauded my friends' actions & all started grumbling that they aren't getting their green points.
I can't help feeling wilfully mis-lead by Tescos over this matter. It seems that you are promoting yourselves as an environmentally conscious company & consumer-friendly but in reality are anything but.
I will be publishing a copy of this letter, and any reply you chose to make, at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=55, as there are growing number of unhappy consumers there who are experiencing similar poor service over this matter.
I eagerly await your reply.
Yours sincerely
Liz Evans

Staff have been told that it is 1 points per FULL bag so your plan is unlikely to work.Quackers wrote:10 things from tesco = 10 carrier bags. DOH! How stoooooopid are they
Stooooopid enough to know that the sytem on the dotcom picking trollies is flawed, but are also working against a target time so don't have the time to pack as they normally wouldTitch0 -
I'm up for doing a wheel barrow, though someone needs to lend me a barrow first! I'm in Birmingham so a choice of stores if we want to go en masse
to the same store, maybe even the same checkout!! :rotfl:

I got a point today for buying my paper and putting it into my carrier bag.
Then did a big family shop told the cashier I had 25 bags and was given 25 points, at the beginning of my packing, the cashier did not monitor it ie count my bags either.

I used the self service till today, the supervisor sorted out my green points after I had finished my transaction. She confirmed that you should get one point for every bag you don't use so if you reuse 4 bags you get 4 points and I asked about baskets on prams and wally trolleys and she said you should get one point for using them. I think it's lack of training for the staff that's causing the varying policies everywhere so maybe it's time to complain folks!:money:0 -
Just come back from my local branch, again I got no green points despite re-using 2 carrier bags (and they were full). I asked the cashier who by then was serving the next person & he said he didn't know how to do it & I'd have to go to customer services if I wanted them. I didn't bother as I had only put the stuff in the bags to test him to be honest, I re-packed it more comfortably into the bottom of the push chair afterwards.
I did notice a big sign saying they were offering double Green points on all organic purchases. This is really starting to wind me up now : they are obviously pretending to be the consumers friend, we all know they are out to make a profit but they are playing us for fools with this green thing....how much profit do they make on organic produts (primarily by screwing the producers into taking a loss) then playing on our consciences?Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
