I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't get the bag points. I always make a point of saying how many bags I used (I have all bags for life) and rarely, if ever actually get any points added. I've never bothered to ask CS to add them on though, maybe if I did start doing that they might retrain the staff?

But just remember these points are a privilege not an obligation - I'm glad to receive them without being prompted and also don't really mind having to ask for them, as they are in fact free anyway!

You can't really rollock them for not giving you something for free can you?! Sounds a bit greedy to me, although of course pre-empting a keyboard warrior style bashing, it's all in my opinion.
No, they are an obligation, because Tesco offered to make them part of the dubious benefits of shopping there. It wasn't my idea ;-)

If that's 'greedy', I assume you don't go looking for marked-down bargains, as that would be taking advantage of Tesco's good nature?

To be honest, I'm not in the least bothered about the odd few pence I'm (effectively) missing out on, I'm more concerned about the thousands of pounds Tesco must be in pocket over the country due to Clubcard points that are owed but not given as cashiers are too busy. All in my opinion, of course ;-)

I say the 15p tax is the only way to go, Eire usage of plastic bags came down virtually over night to something like a 90% reduction. We need that here! You can't trust business to regulate themselves.

I agree that making people pay for bags would drastically reduce their usage - one of the shops my mum used to go to (in the 3 shop route for the weekly shop - I never knew about it at the time, but my mum was a determined moneysaver) didn't have free bags, and one of my jobs was always to go off and find a good box. This wasn't too hard as it was one of the cheap places where they don't bother unpacking every last item, they let the customers reach into boxes for things.

I think if they do charge for bags it also makes sense for them to make available alternatives that would otherwise be rubbish (green in many ways!) - I am sure I remember sainsburys having a place where they put boxes past the tills so that those who wanted them could use them as well, which I haven't seen for a long time.

It gets worse. I went to Customer Service on my next visit for my missing green points and both staff, independently, said that cashiers had been told not to give green points for anything other than reused carriers unless they were asked for. The poor dears have enough to do already, it seems. Pity Tesco didn't think of that when they introduced the scheme.

i thought it was easy to notice if you the shopper had brought her own bags if they ahd the name sainsburys on them, you have to say how many bags you have used, it is understandable as they do have alot to remember, i have come across 1 cashier who was generous with the points
