Tesco Carrier Bag Policy

Agreed. It's a cheap publicity stunt to make people think that Tesco is being environmentally friendly, and so they can feel self-assured that it's ok to shop there.
I remember when their TV ad campaign for this came out, and the very next week it was followed up by another campaign by them to discount petrol sales if you spend a certain amount. I mean what sort of joined up thinking is that?
If you want to be environmentally friendly either
1) don't shop at Tesco
or
2) if you are too lazy not to change your habits that dramatically, at least stop using carrier bags altogether. They seem to manage perfectly ok in France without carrier bags been given out in supermarkets so why not here?0 -
My girlfriend's a manager at a Tesco in Leicestershire. She too hates the problem with CA's not giving point automatically; it's purely a training issue.
There are a couple of issues to address really. One is that CA's need training to the effect that ANYTHING other than a new carrier bag is a good thing, as per the adverts - even if you take a horse in a la Frankie detorri, you should get a point!
The other issue is that CA's don't get a prompt to give the points; they have to remember. My g/f gets asked all the time why there isn't a prompt, and it's because there are already so many others, that another one is simply another time wasting one that's going to make the transaction take longer.
I think their view is that if a customer wants the points but hasn't been given them, they'll shout up. Not right I know, but works well enough!0 -
In the days of sainsburys(i used to work for em) giving 1p per bag the customer re used i was over generous,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

the thing is by tesco giving you points for every bag you re use you get a point but whats the point in you re using your bags if the cashier doesnt award you any points even if u have made it obvious you have used your own bag,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

I want to take a top hat in for a salmon as per the advert...
hi there i work for a tesco store the reason ur loaf was put in a bag which u thought was unnessary is because we are constantly told to pack the first 3 items as part of our customer services0 -

OH and I have been green shoppers since we moved in together and use collapsible crates or recycled bags all the time. when tesco introduced this policy of green points we thought great...but now it's a pain in the backside to get them!
i simpavise with u fully i work in a tesco store and feel sorry for the amount of people queuing up at the customer services desk for green clubcard points to be added as the cashier couldnt be bothered to give or never asked are u reusing any bags today0 -

My GF almost makes the customer apply for a bag - it's so annoying seeing people just take a bag and throw it away as soon as they take the one item out of it! It's not bad customer service to not give a bag, and I think Tesco are lightening up to this now.0

I've sent an email of complaint to Tescos website, they replied asking how many points I thought I'd missed out on & where Id had the problem. I rounded it up to 20 & they put them on my account. They also followed it up saying they would ensure there was more training done at my local store. It is getting better though but I didnt realise there was a points stucture. I usually use a bag for life & I dont think I've ever has extra points for it. I feel another email coming on LOL0
