Thought i would let people know that JOINT to SINGLE claims are taking ages too..........

21/6 advised i was going from joint to single claim

On Sunday that will have been 3 weeks ago!!!! (i am assuming i won't get payment on Sat or Sun and so will hit 3 weeks at least)

I check my bank account EVERY morning. My tax credits will be around £320 ish per wekk (childcare too, which i am paying) - so far i have managed not to borrow any money (apart from £15 of my DD birthday money) and my biggest problem is driving to school since i moved. My children have missed a lot of school in the past 3 weeks purely because i cannot afford to take them.

We are eating dinner mostly at my mums and nappies are a massive problem. I cannot believe how long all this is taking as i did my new claim on the phone with the adviser. I have rung twice and spoken to someone and constantly rung over the past 4 days only to get the busy message. I have to call from my mums as my BT landline is not connected and if my mobile bill comes before my payment i would be stuffed!

All in all i am going to be in serious trouble in around another 3 weeks and this is only if people keep feeding me and my kids stop going to school altogether. Am paying nursery fees by cheque and hoping they won't go through until end of month.

This thread has been a real help to me so wanted to add my story :)
DFW since JAN 2009 - 2014 will be the year i finally clear debts :) Just to see which month :))))

That sounds awfull. I am still in shock at how difficult they make the process. Its surely more work for them as we are calling all the time. Why not take staff off the phones and into the processing department. A bit of training might be usefull too... Iv found them really busy too but I have to keep persisting, sometimes it takes 10 attempts. Keep pushing them and taking notes, its the only way Iv managed to get everywhere. Dont trust anything!!!

I think moving from joint to single if it takes this long is a bigger problem, at least going from single to joint you do have the additional income from the new partner. When I went from joint to single (from WTC to CTC ) it took a couple weeks I think (was about three years ago now), income support took about same, I had a crisis loan from the social fund and two food parcels from Salvation army to get us through, I can't imagine how I would have coped had it taken any longer to come through as I had no support from my ex and was just sleeping at a freinds house trying to find somewhere to live.

I really feel for you in that situation, good to hear you have family helping you out. Does the kids school have any bus service or any of their friends live nearby ? The school I got my kids into were pretty good and one of the secretarys lived nearby and gave them a lift when I was really stuck. Have only just got a car (came with new partner lol) back after 3 yrs without, felt like my legs had been cut off at first, now they are just a bit thinner.:D

Are you working or on Income support - if IS you may be able to get a crisis or budgeting loan to help - although they are 3 weeks behind on those applications (crisis loans should be ok tho).

Also if you read back a little there is some sort of emergency payment you can get- £50 I think - if you visit your local tax credits office.

Anyways am sure you are trying everything u can.

I'm going to call TC now see if they had my form so will let you know.

Well I rang up this morning and my payment has gone through however can anyone explain how you work out childcare as I think they have got it completely wront. I was initially told my payments should be approx £185pw which sounded high but couldnt complain.

My kids are at nursery in a school so £116.75 over 40 weeks a year so in my opinion £89.80pw when divided over 52 weeks.

However when I rang Im now only getting £65pw (which i cant live off) and they say childcare is divided over 30 weeks as its over less time. Surely this cant be the correct way of working this out???

have your circumstances changed since last year?? i'm only getting child tax even though i'm entitled to working tax as well. i've had to phone up & give 2010/2011 income details again to get working tax. why, when the question is answered in the application form?
