I was thinking about this Spendless, he's into golf and was saying how rubbish his golf bag was. He has expensive tastes though so I wonder what his version of a good golf bag would be......:rotfl:Will look into that I think, thanks.Herman - MP for all!0

I got a card.
Oh, and she waited until the end of the following week to mention that my dog had died.
Aw bless. I almost feel like sending you a birthday cake.
Almost.:rotfl:
Never mind pet, perhaps if she'd got you something, it might have been a horrible jumper, so it's maybe a blessing in disguise that she didn't.
Sorry about the dog thing though.Herman - MP for all!0 -
My son has always said that he wants to go up in a hot air balloon so if he hasnt done it by the time he is 21 then I think that is what we might do for him then.0

I got £1,000 in my savings account for my 21st. That makes me sound like a right spoiled brat but as I'd said I didn't really want anything other than the £40 handbag I'd asked for my parents figured it was better to give me money. Plus I am one of those really boring 20-somethings who would rather squirrel her money away for things like paying a deposit on a flat or if I ever get married than go out and spend it all.
They also got me a silver Tiffany necklace with a flower pendant, and my sisters bought me the matching earrings.
I like the 21 small gifts idea though, and the golf bag suggestion is good."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
How about a Paul Smith wallet? on sale in some places at the moment, I have bought my son a Toy Watch for his 21st, he had a number plate for his 18th0

My parents sent me some flowers (I lived in FLorida and they lived in england). I went out on a 3 day party staying with friends etc, by the time I got back to my house (they had been left in the porch) they had died!0

Just remembered, one of the pressies I got for my daughter was a personalised calendar:

She was very pleased with it and everyone has admired it.
If you can afford it, a gold sovereign would make a different gift and is a good investment. It's also a tax free one as these are legal tender in the UK. http://www.goldsovereigns.co.uk/2010sovereigns.phpsomewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
I got both of mine a laptop. It's what they both wanted/needed, and it was more than I usually spend on a birthday.0

As it happens, I got a few things from the first site you linked to.Although I'm about to phone them to complain as I paid extra for next day delivery and they didn't show.
The gold sovereign idea is something I would like, that fits with my 'something to keep' feelings about a special birthday such as a 21st. I'm not convinced my son would see the same attraction sadly, I can see him thinking 'what's the point in that, I can't use it'. Philistine that he is.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I can't even remember what I got for my 21st
I was away at uni at the time though so didn't get a big 'thing' as it couldn't have been transported to me.
Sorry I can't be of more help, I think you said your son likes to have a gift whereas I'm always about basically money. It's not necessarily just cash, but if someone pays for a ticket to a performance for example, or I like to pool a few people's gifts and get a great experience, such as buying a holiday or festival ticket, then I have the memories as my gift.
Does anyone else like to do this and find people don't understand why you wouldn't rather have a physical gift to open from them? I am usually given something small too "just to have something to open", however I do like opening presents too, so0
