The word disease covers a range of illnesses transmitted by a variety of pathogens, which rarely give the recipient a 'choice.'
Saying people choose to become infected by HIV isn't helpful either. Yes there are some behaviours with an increased risk but even then I don't think people choose to get infected. It encouraged the idea that HIV+ people are to blame for their status with all the negative conotations that go with that.0 -
I can't help but think that if the word obese had never been used there would never have been such a furor
