I think one good thing about apple products is they retain a decent price for resale after a year whereas rivals such as desire will go for peanuts when 2nd hand in a years time, the way I look at it is I buy an iphone now and if I can sell it in 12 months for 75% then its a bonus as I change every 9 to 12 months anyway, go look on amazon 2nd hand 3gs non locked decent nick is still pulling £450. for those who hate itunes there are several alternatives most allow drag and drop. If you want an iphone you get one the price is not really an issue if you change it often. So no need for extended warranty or new battery etc.

so do you buy the same model every 9m but sell the old one for about 350£ and buy a new one for 450£ when you could get a spare battery for about 20£ for other phones. i dont see the economy in that. other phones come out with much better models in that year hence the price drop for older models, apple just releases new models once every few years.

wallmart apparently is already selling the 3gs for 100$ as per reports so it wont be long before the same happens here. just the other day someone on here was selling the 3gs for 200£ so there is a difference in asking price on amazon and the actual selling price.

I cannot for the life of me see where I said I get the same phone, example my existing is a 3Gs, my previous until last september was a Blackberry Pearl, etc etc who knows what I will have this time next year, it could even be a HTC if they pull their finger out.

As for you not seeing why I do this rather than get a new battery etc, simple, I want a new phone, I like to change them regular, none of them are realy that expensive.

ok my mistake, i didnt get what you meant.

when i buy new phones i dont bother selling them, i just put a new battery in and give the phone to my mom or my in laws if they are interested or any of the little ones in the extended family. they are not too fussed about the latest phone so they are usually happy with a 1.5y-2y old model.

Have just had a knock at the door and my new HTC Desire is now with me! Got it sim free for £399

Have been doing lots of looking into the Android OS and HTC i know make good devices.

Very pleased with the phone and i love the fact that the OS is open and you can do what you like with it where as the iphone you do what they want and also they dont try and sell you things that should already be included such as support and cover for the phone.

Looked at the specs for both and money for money the Desire is better, iphone 4 is way way over priced but the Sheep will flock, i see in the iphone 4 thread there are boxes upon boxes of tissues of tissues being used they are they excited.

People keep going on about apps and itunes for the iphone, well there are plenty of other ways to sync your music to phone, 'Doubletwist' is one and the apps seem to be the same as the iphone / ipod stores.

Very happy with it and looking forward to the next HTC phone that i am sure like the Evo will be very very good, more so better than the Desire and iphone.

Glad you are pleased with it.

Have you used it extensively then in the last 15 minutes?;)

It's good that you are happy with your phone and I hope enjoy it.

As for your "boxes of tissues" comment; I just wanted to say how sad it is that you can get so excited about your new phone and "love the fact that the OS is open", but feel the need to provide a fine example of flockinockinihilipilification over the iPhone 4 thread. Why do you feel the need to be so shallow?

No, not this one but another yes. I wouldnt buy a phone based on what others have told me, i will use one and do get to use lots of them over a period of time, more so than those who just rush out and get one because it looks good or someone else has said so.

It appears i may have offended another iphone user by daring to say something about it.

Not excited, pleased it was here quicker than what i was advised. Yes the OS is open which will make for some good additions so the phone works how i want it to. As for the box of tissues comment, some in that thread are a little excitable, a little too much. I am also far from shallow my friend

I would also like to thank you for bringing to my attention the poor use of words in my post, had i been using an Apple product i am sure it would not of occurred.

Just thought I would drop some thoughts into this as I currently (well until the end of this week before I made redundant, work for a College and deal with technology).

Android - up and coming, will get there - eventually - reasonable battery life, good apps, poor app store, avoid anything less than 2.1 system (take Hero as an example HTS state '2.1 is coming, ok WHEN?'. Most charge from mini USB so can be charged anywhere.

iPhone - slick, easy to use, best app store EVER, poor battery life, lack of multi tasking (will be dealt with to some degree with iOS4 - released 21/06/10).

SO as an experiment at a meeting recently I took an iPhone and an HTC Hero and N900 and asked several people to use them (this was a blend of senior staff, students and our tech teams). On average the people played with the iPhone 6 times longer than the Hero or N900. People also could navigate the iPhone immediately whereas people had issues with the Hero and N900. Our tech people made standard comments such as 'iPhone is restrictive' etc 'Android is better technically', 'N900 pile of poo'. However it was interesting that 90% of people agreed that the iPhone was the more attractive, slickest, easiest to use and percieved as the most 'desirable'.

By the way this was not a silly experiment, it was designed to look at how we can engage people in using mobile devices for learning and downloading/uploading to a VLE (Virtual Learning Enviroment).

    Hope this helps
