I prefer the HTC Desire because I can plug it into any PC and transfer media just like a USB stick without having to use iTunes.

The battery is also replaceable so when it starts to fade after 18 months (as they all do) you can replace it yourself for £20 without needing permission from Steve Jobs.

It also supports flash. I know there are plenty of pro/cons of supporting Flash but I still prefer to just use it while that battle rages elsewhere.

Loyalties aside, iPhone and HTC users are often extremely happy with their devices. I know both sorts. They are both impressive gadgets.

It really depends what is important to you. If you love iTunes then an iPhone is going to fit in. If you use Google Calendar/Gmail and Google Contacts then an Android device is going to seem nicer.

people keep mentioning you are unable to change battery on iphone yet you can on desire,in 14-15 years of mobile ownership i have yet to find the need to change my battery.
to use the fact battery cannot be changed as a reason not to buy is quite simply stupid,as is suggesting people buy the iphone just to look "cool"
people should just choose a phone that suites their needs rather than asking other people, everyone has an opinion based on their specific needs/wants and budget.
personally for me the iphone does everything i want/need from a smartphone not to mention i think it looks better than the HTC.
but that is my own opinion and i did not need to start a thread in order to come to that opinion,i simply went to a shop looked at phones on market and what they could do and chose what i wanted.

If you would stop your "must defend iphone at all costs attitude" and think for a minute . . . . . .

    Are we there yet?

So you can have a spare fully charged battery to slip in when the other dies!!! Now thats simplez:p

From looking at the iphone 3gs and now the 4 they are much the same as Apple claim to release something that is ground breaking and new.

Video capture on the 3gs wasn't a first for mobile phones and a front facing camera on the 4 isn't a first yet they deem it to be brand new and never done before as they do with other parts of the device. They do though play catch up with other devices.

HTC on the other hand are innovative and the Evo 4g shows just so.

My personal choice is the HTC Desire and i will be the happy owner of one as of next week, i just wish that Palm's new OS was on it!

£ for £ you'll get far more for your money with the HTC Desire, you will also be able to use it how you want - unlike the iphone which you can only use how apple want.

If this website was called moneywastingexpert.com. then i would say get an iphone.

I'll admit to being torn between the iPhone and the Desire.

I'm no big Apple fan but you can't fault the after sales service. I took my wifes iPod in the local Apple store with a problem (an iPod bought from O2 mind you) and walked out with a new one. Now that's service.
If I get a Desire and it goes wonky, I'm going to be without it for days/weeks while it's fixed. If I buy an iPhone 4 and it fails I get a new one next day. How do you put a price on that ?

Desire has a two year warranty though. You can put a price on that. £60 from Apple. ;)

    A very good point.

But if an HTC does go wrong, how long to get it fixed ? Do HTC repair them or just send you out a new/refreb ?

    Well, £24 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AppleCare-Protection-Plan-iPhone-2G-3G-3GS-4-/190405304026?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhones&hash=item2c550a5eda

    But still a good deal...
