If you were asking about the Desire or 3GS I would say the Desire all the way.
Between the Desire and the iPhone 4 it's a much more dificult choice and it depends on what is more important to you.
Do you want an open platform that is easy to customise? Or are you happy to do things the Apple way?
It also depends on your finances as the Desire will be considerably cheaper than the iPhone 4.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
%The media keep pushing Apple's line about "what is the iPhone killer". Its just spin - there are a host of handsets already on sale which beat the 3GS hands down, and match the new 4th gen model. Stuff like the lack of multitasking vs a hackable OS is why Android now outsells Apple.
Go with the future - buy an HTC handset. iPhone is sooooo last year.0 -
Android is definitely the next big thing, but it really depends what you want. If you want the sleekness and ease of use of an iPhone then go for it. If you prefer customisability and a much, much lower price, go for the desire.
Desires can be found for free on £25 18 month contracts. The iPhone 4 is expected to be £150ish on a £35 contract.0 -

Yawn. Android is an operating system used on numerous handsets, from several key players aimed at several different markets. Apple is a brand which release a single handset per year - to compare the two is to compare bananas with oranges.
Android phones are not better for EVERY consumer, they are better for you and many others. If you can name me a smartphone that offers everything that the 3GS does health and fitness wise (including the built in Nike+ sensor) I will be seriously impressed. Note that I am a qualified personal trainer, don't waste my time with gimmicks.
Totally accept that the iPhone would benefit from multitasking which - as you well know - is coming later this year with OS 4.0. I am not aware of other handsets that have such comprehensive software support a couple of years after the handset is launched? BTW some of us are comfortable enough in our own skin not to need to customise our screens in order to demonstrate our individuality.
Much as I love my iPhone I am pushing my sixty-something father toward Android as I feel the larger screen sizes on offer are a winner. So crack on and label me a deluded Apple fangirl!Perhaps you could ask the OP how he intends to use his smartphone before you advise which phone is 'the one'??

Well to start with I don't have an Android phone. I'm just pointing out that its OS already sells more than the Apple OS does. yes on more handsets, but as Apple keep claiming that their product is the end of technology its a bit of a surprise to see the young upstart overtake it so quickly. So I make no claims at all about which smartphone is "the one" merely that Apple's claims of amazing technological advances don't match the facts.
BTW from what I have read iOS4 won't offer full multitasking - just on a particular combination of apps which Apple have decided you might want to run at the same time. Its basically extending their closed OS into what you can and can't do. Yes, they will claim its a mega step forward, and no, it isn't. If HTC can manage to offer multitasking on both Android and Windows OS without killing the battery then Apple could. They simply choose not to. Why is that? They could let you swap the battery when it nears the end of its life but don't. They could offer a micro-SD slot like everyone else but don't. In the last two cases its because they can profit from people by saying "you need a new phone" or "let us change you a fortune for an extra few gigs of memory".
Look, the new iPhone is a perfectly good handset - in my opinion the first one they've produced thats up to the mark. Personally I can't live with the restrictions Apple place on it but if it offers what you want then great! Its not a dig at people who have iPhones and like them. Its a dig at Apple and their parrots who continually hype their new products like they are cutting edge.0 -

!!!!!! they are only mobile phones not a life or death matter.
if you dont like iphones or apple dont buy them if you do then do simple.
OP,posting on here asking what is best to get you are always going to get people who slag the iphone off and always going to get people slagging the HTC off,why dont you decide what you want from your phone and how much you want to spend initially and monthly and contract length then decide for yourself?
as for the iphone4 how can anyone on here recommend it bearing in mind it has not gone on sale yet??0
