Phone Arrived, Practically Zero Signal
Bought a phone (HTC Desire) from mobiles co uk , it arrived today. I checked the T-Mobile signal map before ordering and it suggested a good signal for both 2G and 3G at my home. The reality is that the Desire cannot detect any T-mobile signal 99% of the time. Since it was to be used primarily at my house it is practically an expensive paperweight.
So my question is, what should I do ? I'd really just like to cancel the contract with T-mobile/mobiles.co.uk since it is effectively pointless if I can't make and receive calls as required.

Why have you now started another thread to the one I replied on earlier ?????So my question is, what should I do ? I'd really just like to cancel the contract with T-mobile/mobiles.co.uk since it is effectively pointless if I can't make and receive calls as required.
The problem you now have by opening the box and inserting the sim card has now complicated matters.
I thought you had already decided you didn't want the phone ????It's not just about the money0 -

Thanks for the reply however I don't really trust mobiles co uk -
I shan't delve too much into my current experience of returning items to mobiles co uk except to say they don't answer their contact e-mails (even their website was down for part of today)...7 Day Return
The returns period and the following instructions apply to contract, pay-as-you-go and upgrade orders.
If upon receiving your handset you decide you no longer want the handset or the contract, then you can complete a 7 day return. For this to be completed you need to:
- Contact our Returns team. Click here to email us.
- Ensure the Sim/Handset/Free gift has not been used (use signifies acceptance of your contract)
- Ensure item being returned is in it’s original packaging
- Contact us to arrange a return by the 6th day of the first attempted delivery*
- Retain a returns number which you will be supplied. NB: please do not use the handset once a return has been authorised.
- The returned parcel must include:
-Returns number
-Invoice (with transaction number / name and address)
-Charger, battery, manual and any other included accessories
- Send the parcel back via special delivery
- The warehouse must receive the parcel back within 2 days of setting up the return
- If paid for the handset a refund will be issued via cheque (If a pre pay handset £10 top up and postage is non refundable)
- Advise us if you have ported your number
- If ported number you need to contact your network provider to retain a PAC code
- If paid a deposit you will need to contact and retrieve this back from the network provider
- Please allow 3-5 working days, from the date our warehouse receives the phone, for disconnections to be processed
- If the warehouse does not receive the returned item back within 7 working days from the first attempted delivery, then the return will be cancelled and the goods will be sent back to you.
*The 7 days starts from the day after we first attempted to deliver your product, even if you missed the delivery.
If when using the handset you discover you have no signal please contact our returns department and they will liaise the network for you. If they confirm no signal is available in this area and the contract is within 7 days then we will be able to authorise a return for cancellation.
I'm already talking to T-Mobile about this problem, and of course there's bound to be a signal somewhere in the area - just not where I need it - and even if it were the case I can't see mobiles co uk doing it in seven days.0 -
I'm not sure I follow this.... you ordered one phone that was a failed delivery yesterday and you received another one from them today ????Because I'm talking about a different order and phone with the same company - so it's a different thread.
Regardless of what you say you need to send it back asap recorded delivery with your reasons for return etc.
Ignore waiting for email replies and returns numbers etc etc because they are just delaying tactics.
In this particular case ensure that you copy in T-Mobile with your returns details and that you have cancelled and keep copies of all emails and paperworkIt's not just about the money0 -

You do realise that any mobile reseller is within the distance selling regulations as well, it appears, as their own t&c which you tacitly agreed to if they refuse to cancel an air-time contract once the sim has been used.
If, however, the actual handset is faulty or if the particular model fails to meet industry standards of reception that you can prove by numerous other makes of handset working perfectly in your desired location, then you have a case for rejection of the handset under Sale of Goods Act.0
