I hope you don't live near me then 3onitsway because my friend has a baby daughter called Violet! I think it's a beautiful name.
Or maybe I am your friend! :rotfl:Don't you mean you will thcream and thcream and thcream.(Violet Elizabeth in Just William )
I wanted Violet Elizabeth but OH wouldn't let me! So the middle name is Ann.:beer:0 -
I like it too. I had my heart set on Evie for a girl....decided a few years ago but of course now there is a glut of girls with this name so I am totally put off!!!0

I think it's an important consideration about reading/spelling as it's frustrating always to have to spell your name out or to have to correct the pronunciation.
I have to do this is 2 of my 3 names - it really is a pain in the backside. The amount of people who put an "a" at the end instead of an "e" too.
I once had someone ask me how I spell my middle name and I was a bit:eek: because there's (to my knowledge anyway) only one way of spelling it. Someone later said "there's another way of spelling it too".Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

my cousin's daughter is Ophelia. We also have a Pandora, Miranda and Cordelia in the family.
See I LOVE the name Pandora, but my mind being in the gutter as it is, there are far far too many 'Pandora's box' jokes to be made for me to ever inflict the name on my future kids! She'd hate me when she was all grown up!0 -
Thanks all four your replies. I do like Olivia. but it is my nieces name.
Your right about having to wait till the babies born though Scarlett was going to be called Lily, but there was no way once seeing her she would ever be a sweet, quite Lily.
Scarletts a Active, Bright baby and all ready wraps anyone around her little finger, she came out screaming and went stright to the breast - she's a girl who knows what she wants and knows how to get it lol.
My DH was saying today that since we have a Scarlett we can't just call the baby something very simple - and he quite like's Viola not as much as Ophelia though.:o0 -
The reason i asked is when we told my MIL she said it was a strange name, i explained it was from Hamlet then she said why would i want such a old name - can't win. When i picked Scarlett she said it was a 'street walkers' name and i should go with something traditional - but i actually picked it as i love the book Gone with the wind.
Scarlett is a lovely name and your MIL is rude for having said that.
I think Ophelia's a very pretty name too, but can see a lot of teenage teasing - what about Portia? Portia's also a stronger character than OpheliaOrganised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

Ophelia is lovely but I can't believe all the Violets!! I was keeping that one in case we eveer have a girl (although OH's surname does begin with D so maybe not the best idea...).
Going off what very popular round here (if you were wanting to steer clear of the popular ones):
Olivia
Ruby
Evie / Eva
Emma
Grace
Lauren
Molly
Mia
Lily
Betsy
May / Mai
Isabel / Isabelle (which I really love)
Chelsea / Chelsey (um.....no)
Hannah (which I also like)
I do love Amelia but looks like that's getting very popular now as well. I've seen some Islas as well, though not many, and a Freya. Martha and Matilda are cropping up (although they sound soooo middle class!).
I have some slightly smug friends who chose Esme (actually Esmarelda) as it was so 'different'. Did have the heart to tell them how...ahem..common it was round here. They'd have been better calling her Barbara or Gloria if they'd wanted something so different.
I quite like Erin as well. Daisy's really lovely but one of our cats is called that now so that's out! I like Ava too, but it would sound hideous with our local accent! I love Alice but as soon as I said it to OH he said "who the **** is Alice" - gutted! There's a personal reason I like it too - a friend of the family's sadly died young and this was her name - I always loved it then (mainly because I thought she was possibly the coolest person on earth!) and I still do.0 -
My dd is called Lily Mae, again no Lily's when she was born in 2002, then all of a sudden loads have popped up, although she is the only one her year, there is another Lily in the school.
My step dd's are Danielle, Cherie and Chantal.
My nieces are Jessica, Elleece (but gets called Ellie) and Phoebe
The other names i like are
Maddison
Matilda (possibley shorted to Tilly)
There seems to be a lot of Ellie's, Jasmine's, Molly's and Louise's in dd's school. My beloved dog Molly27/05/1997-01/04/2008RIP my wonderful stepdad - miss you loads:Axxxxxxxxx:Aour new editionsSenna :male: and Dali :female: both JRT0 -
I loved this website when I was looking for a name (ended up with Eloise) which has a section where they have asked people with that name whether it gets misspelled/mispronounced and what nicknames/bullying it provokes.
