Eloise was one of my choices for DD, but when she wa born she was much more of a Melissa.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Yes, I feel the same - however 'pretty' a name Ophelia might be, the fact that the only character I know of with that name went mad and drowned would put me off using it.0 -
I love the name Miranda. If I remember rightly it was a Shakespearean name [from The Tempest].0

I was nearly a Poppy, but it was just a bit too wacky at the time so my dad wimped out, its a real shame as I'd have loved it and I ended up with a name that about every third or fourth girl my age has. I always thought I might call a daughter Poppy but it seems to be quite popular now which has ruined the appeal a bit!
I like old fashioned names like Audrey, Nora or Henrietta.
I do quite like Hermia, but i'd be to scared of her being called Hermia the Hermaphrodite. I think 'Ifeelya' is much more tame in comparison.
At the moment the girls list stands at
Ophelia
Rosalie
Orla
I do quite like Violet but i don't want people think i'm a strange women naming my children after colours, with a Scarlett and a Violet.
Thanks all for all your comments and suggestions0 -
Scarlett Gamlin is good, Ophelia Gamlin just doesn't have the same nice ring to it, although Ophelia is a lovely name.
sorry....
'I feel ya' would also be offputting if it were me. there's also alliterative Awful Ophelia nickname too....p.s. Hermia is too much like a hernia, imho. Do the anagram thing on Orla and you'll find what she'd be called as a teen  Gypsy Rosalie.... trouble is there are so many names linked to famous characters.
I wanted to call our DD Verity, a lovely old Puritanical name. DH said no though, as I think he thought it sounded a bit too posh. We did end up with a three syllable name though, as it sounded right with our surname to have a name that was a bit longer, iyswim. I'm not going to tell you what is though, online privacy and all that!!;)
There's plenty of old names out there that are making a comeback, so have a traipse through your family tree to see if there's any old aunties who would love a baby named after them.:) Bad of your mother to remind you of Scarlett the harlot after you'd chosen the name, no one remembers her now anyway.
Same advice as on the boys name thread, swop the initials, see what rhymes, see what it spells backwards, I didn't think to post on the other thread to see if it sounded like a name for an insurance company.;) There's a bloke at work who is married to a woman called Vina. That's one old name I don't think will be widely resurrected. She's only about 30 aswell, Lord knows what her parents were thinking, couldn't they see what it rhymed with.
Have you thought about Jessica? Was very popular a few years back but has died down. Adriana sounds a bit Shakespearian to me.
why are there no baby girls called Alison anymore??Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
