I wanted to call our DD Verity, a lovely old Puritanical name. DH said no though, as I think he thought it sounded a bit too posh. We did end up with a three syllable name though, as it sounded right with our surname to have a name that was a bit longer, iyswim. I'm not going to tell you what is though, online privacy and all that!!;)

My OH said the same when I wanted to call her Cressida :rotfl:

I do quite like Hermia, but i'd be to scared of her being called Hermia the Hermaphrodite. I think 'Ifeelya' is much more tame in comparison.

At the moment the girls list stands at
    Ophelia
    Rosalie
    Orla
I do quite like Violet but i don't want people think i'm a strange women naming my children after colours, with a Scarlett and a Violet.

Thanks all for all your comments and suggestions

Out of those I like Rosalie best, Orla sounds lovely in some accents but like an awful screech in some so I guess it would depend on where you live! Rosalie can be Rose, Rosie, Rosa, Sally, Lie or the full thing.

I love the idea of colours for children though! You could have Violet, Scarlett, Saffron, Amber, Sienna, Fuchsia, Coral, Magenta. Only really works for girls though!

    Ophelia is lovely!
A thing to remember about giving children names that are NOW fashionable is that in a few years when they are not they will either sound silly or every time they are asked their names they will hear the refrain that I used to hear almost daily - "How do you spell that?" Thank God my parents were sensible and gave me another well-known and simple extra name which I now use having consigned the old one to the dustbin!

I wanted to call my eldest daughter Cordelia and didn't because of other people's reactions. I still regret it sometimes.

    My friend has a Cordelia!

My dd is called Lily Mae, again no Lily's when she was born in 2002, then all of a sudden loads have popped up, although she is the only one her year, there is another Lily in the school.
My step dd's are Danielle, Cherie and Chantal.
My nieces are Jessica, Elleece (but gets called Ellie) and Phoebe

The other names i like are

    Maddison
    Matilda (possibley shorted to Tilly)

There seems to be a lot of Ellie's, Jasmine's, Molly's and Louise's in dd's school.

My Lily was born in'94 and there were absolutely none.. now everybody seems to have a Lily..

Bizarrely the same thing happened when I named 2 of my others Madeleine and Ava.. there were suddenly hundreds about 2 years later!!

Poppy, Ellie, Millie, Chloe and Caitlin are all overly used here... there are 3 Caitlin and 2 Chloes in the nursery (34 children and about half are boys!)

I am yet to find another Roderick, Bevan, Claudia, Jemimah or Darius though.. :D

Ooooooh... I just LOVE the name Poppy! I have never thought I'd have a little girl, for some reason I expect that when I do eventually have a family, it'll consist of little boys. However, if I do, I'd like to call her Poppy but I don't think it goes with my Mum's name, Angela, which would be her middle name. Poppy Angela. Hmm..

I love girly names like Hollie/Holly, Lily, Ruby, Danielle and Lacey.

Oh, I don't know, some folks are just a bit dim. I have a very simple, four letter name, not that unusual, but not common either, it's never been in the top 20, there's a singer, an artist and perfume with the same name, it's always spelt the same, but still people ask me how to spell it quite regularly :p
