Well my DH would not even entertain the thought of baby names until we actually had a baby in our arms. When we had DD we put out the phone call with it's a girl 6lb 3oz- no name! We then sat there the following day with a baby and a book and chose NO names. After 3 days I phoned DH and insisted that the baby was named even thoug he wasn't there because I had to call her something. So Chloe she was. 2 days later (I was in for a week as poorly), I spoke to my Uncle on the phone and he said her middle name should be "Ann with no E as we've all been discussing it" I then walked past the midwives and they called me over. "We've been chatting..... have you got a middle name yet? Because we al think that it should be Ann with no E"
I phone DH and ask if he's thought of a middle name "Well we've all been talking and we think it should be Ann...."
"Let me guess, with no E?"
    "Er yes"
"That means her initials will be CAR?"
    "Errrr, yeah?"
"Sounds like I'm outnumbered then. OK"

DS was home within a few hours and we sat on the floor choosing a name. We called DD through to ask if she like Logan and she agreed so DS was named Logan

for about an hour. Then MiL came round and said it was awful. So we went back to the drawing board. He ended up as Callum Edward.

Got fed up last night - baby is due end of September and as DS was nameless for about 6 weeks (LOL) I am determined this one won't go the same way.

Yet OH literally likes NO names. None. Not a single one. At least I am being open-minded and suggesting ones I think are 'just' okay (a bit of a labour for me as I have names I absolutely adore but he has vetoed straightaway) but nothing. Even the ones he liked somewhat last time he doesn't even like this time!

I picked out some of the ones I liked from this thread (Elliott - even though it get the E.T. jokes), Joel and Theo but... no. So glad you at least have some names you are thinking about OP, no such luck here!

How on earth do you pronounce Tyk? Is is Tick or Tyke? Either way it's pretty dire, poor kid.

Tyke - that might not be how their parents spell it (just how I heard it) Def dire! (I don't yet have any children but when I do their names will be traditional and/or from family).
Using my phone to post - apologies in advance for any typos

We had loads of names listed for our youngest son before he was born but our eldest insisted on Joseph. No idea why, we're not religious.
Not a name either my husband or I would have chosen but as we couldn't agree on another one Joseph it was.

Joseph is called Joe most of the time (his choice) and likes the fact he's the only one in the school.
It's different but not too weird.
I'm glad I didn't get my own way with either of our boys I've always wanted William our surname is Mitchell ! :o

There's a difference between 'unusual' and 'made up/weird' which I think is what you are suggesting with the registrar. Unusual, to me atleast, indicates an uncommon but legitimate name......where as something like "Sarbendy" (Sarah and Ben were this poor poor girls parents) is just made up and ridiculous.

    But thats just my opinion.

There are some names that are no-go definitely. However as the law stands the registrar does have the final say and can refuse to name a child with an inappropriate name. Ive been present when babies have been named after cars - lexus, mercedes, zafira (i kid you not), babies named after scifi characters, babies after football teams, babies named after their conception location....after Mrs Beckham. I personally do think that there is a fine line when choosing names and remember that this name will remain with the child until they are 18 and they can legally change it!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

actually - THAT car was named after the manufacturers (or was it designers) daughter! Mercedes was a well known girls name until it was used for a car!
