Dont forget that if you choose a really "unusual" name for your child there is every possibility that the registrar can refuse to register that child under that name. It is their legal right to refuse if they think the name is unreasonable. Not that Im suggesting any of the names on this thread are unreasonable!
Think it was in New Zealand, a couple were convicted of child abuse for naming their child "Tallulah does the hula in Hawaii"0 -
Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

I think Julian is a lovely name... though I have an ex by that name and though we are still good friends I don't think it would be appropriate.
And Westley is great... (the name of the gorgeous Carey Elwes as the Dread Pirate Roberts) Aaaaaaaas Yoooooooou Wiiiiiiiiiiiiish.....
Best. Film. Ever. Life is pain, princess! Perfect.
However Westley as a name.....nah.
Julian (apologies to any out there) always struck me a bit of a posh mummy's boy name:o0 -

There's a difference between 'unusual' and 'made up/weird' which I think is what you are suggesting with the registrar. Unusual, to me atleast, indicates an uncommon but legitimate name......where as something like "Sarbendy" (Sarah and Ben were this poor poor girls parents) is just made up and ridiculous.
But thats just my opinion.0 -
Whenever I see "Westley", I always think of a dog.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

That name reminds me of Ian Brady:eek:0 -
A good few of those are considered chavvy names in these parts!
.
round here Manchester way on it's the newish names like Tyler,Tyk, Ky, Toby, Alfie, Kaydie, etc that are popular (my mum works in a school so has mentioned a couple of times about names like this)
The names I mentioned were people I work with or people in my family who are all 30+ and not "chavy"
Like has been said a few times it varies by region/area!Using my phone to post - apologies in advance for any typos0 -
We know sooooo many Dylans. We know a couple of Killians too....
My son is called Kennedy, which is quite an unusual name for a boy.0 -

I would only call my son Westley as a tribute to the Princess Bride. Though it would have to be a middle name!
As for Julian - I agree... but it's still a lovely name. And my Julian certainly wasn't a posh mummy's boy!Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0
