Cloverfan, I'm curious too!
Paul? Simon?0 -
My little boy is Tam Joseph- it's easy for him to spell, is a 'solid' name & he's very proud that he has a slightly unusual name.:):)
Tam? Ouch, pity him when he's a teenager. I bet he'll get called Tampax.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I called my son Jeffrey when he was born - he's 21 this year....and he has never heard of anyone with his name in his age group. It has been shortened to Jeff and Jeffers by his mates but he seems happy enough - different without being chavvy!!

Yes, but there's not need to give them any ammunition! A kid with a "normal" name MAY get teased. A kid with a weird/ridiculous name WILL get teased.
God forbid they're also overweight/too thin/spotty/too tall/too short....etc.
Your kids will never thank you for saddling them with a stupid name when they already have so much schoolyard politics to deal with!0 -
I was bullied as a child because I have the same name as a character in a kids tv show - I used to get the theme tune sung at me at every opportunity, which I found to be particularly humiliating. Please think carefully when naming your child.0

Oooh... I like Ellis
That has been veto'ed by my OH though.(I think the reason is clear in my sig
Harry has also been veto'ed for the same reason!!)
I like Oliver, thats my nephew's name. However I think if I ever had a son, I think it would be Patrick, I love that name and both me and OH have Irish backgrounds.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -

Maybe if your parents had just called you Ben instead of "Gentle Ben"
sorry.....I'll get me coat.:o
John Finnegan, Rory Finnegan, Samuel Finnegan,Neil Finnagan...
for some reason older more traditional names are going better with your surname.
Tim is out too, because of Finnegan's wake, as I'm sure you already know.
However, the fact you'd consider Westley suggests you're quite happy to go for a lifetime of his name never being spelled or pronounced correctly, so maybe you should go for the odder more difficult spellings of a traditional name. Rhuraidh, Niall, etc...
Names that come straight off of Montel will NOT go with an Irish surname.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

most blokes in the area of Scotland where I live that are named Thomas end up being called Tam, it's quite common, so on one shift at work we have Tam Donnelly, Tam Dempsey and Tam Broon. They never just get 'Tam'
The equivalent these days will be Jack.... never just a first name as there's usually another one in the class.
Interesting that Jack was just the common name for John in the same way that Jake is... yet we think of them as different names these days.
Great thread OP, it certainly shows up the wide difference in people's tastes in names.:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
