    Our son would be George.

Strangely both of our grandfathers are called George, and our grandma's Evelyn.

Guess what our daughters name would be ;)

What, you mean somebody might actually want to name their baby after Marvin???:eek:
No-one would really call a child Marvin, would they? Marvin will forever be the Paranoid Android from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy ...

    this is the story

she was actually TAKEN FROM THEM...

Y'know, that's so sad. Really really sad.

Not that they called her something stupid. I think a lot of names are stupid, but they're livable in thier own circles. Like for example that name that was allowed- "Midnight Chardonnay", well at least Midnight is a romantic thing/a shade of blue, not too far from being called Dawn or Scarlet I suppose, names often originate poetically. Chardonnay is hardly unheard of for a girl either- even if I personally think it's not a good one. So although it's a stupid name at least it's bearable.... But "Talulah Does The Hula In Hawaii" is entirely unjustifiable! Call your child Talulah if you want, unusual but not exactly freakish. The rest of it though?

I think that the parents had so little regard for thier daughter that they would let it come to this is the saddest thing of all. Social Service cases don't just spring up on the courts lists, they take time to get there, at any point the parents wil have had ample time to say "you know what, her happiness matters more to us, lets just call her Kay like she wants". They didn't.

The real tragedy of all this isn't thier bad taste or bizare sense of humour, it's thier persistant lack of care for the girl when she was evidently being greatly socially disabled by it.

I'm really really annoyed by these people. Having bad taste is forgivable but insisting on continuing to humilliate your kids when it's clear they can't deal with it is quite another.

I do like the dexter programme but not very keen on the name. Still am no further ahead on naming my son. Someone out there must know a great name for me to nick.

Kai sounds to me like "Kay" spoken with an estuary/cockney accent.

I'm a bit old-fashioned and would be very wary of choosing an "unusual" name because it often seems as soon as someone chooses it, something happens and thousands of others have suddenly had the same idea. But I suppose that's the nature of these things: names can go in and out of fashion quite quickly. My own was one of the most popular girl's name between two certain dates, there were invariably more than one of us in class at school but it's been pretty unpopular since. Therefore without even knowing me, people can pretty easily slot me into a certain age-group and very probably into a certain class as well. Such is life but at least it's not actually weird or outlandish.

I'm quite fond of boring "traditional" names like William, David, Peter, Timothy and Christopher. There might be thousands of them out there but I doubt any felt it a terrible handicap in life unlike one or two less conventional ones I could think of.
