I have a Louis Charles and a Jules Arnold.

They're 15 and at the time there were no Louis' at all, he was named after his paternal great-grandfather and Charles after my dad.

Jules just suited him, we had other names chosen, Miles, Leo, Julius, but they just didn't fit. Arnold was my mum's maiden name so he's named after my mum and nan.

I also have a daughter, Melissa Anne Violet. Melissa because I love bees, Anne after OH's aunt who died just before she was born and also after my aunt who has no children and all the girls are named after her, Violet after my nan who died a year before she was born.

    I love a story to a name :p

I like family names. I think tradition is important - my DD is called the same as the last 3 generations, but with a different middle name and she is know by her middle name and my DS has my grandfather's name as a middle name. With the resurgence of old fashioned names it might be nice to look at great grandfather adn grandfather's names to see if there is any you like - they are also likely to be classless which as I said IMO is important, but I might be in the minority here!

I heard a couple today when I was out. I saw an old friend and she gave me Keston, Eston, Cassius, Wade, Travis, Bede, Orsen, Channing and Wyatt. What do you lot think of these. I quite like Wade and Eston. Wade sounds like a cowboy but Eston sounds like a singer in a boy band.

Sorry..I think they all sound like either cowboys' names or Days of Our Lives/Dynasty names...:o
  • My DS is called Eddie/Ed short for Edward, don't know anyone else with the same name, i also love Taylor, Layton, Hugh, hubby wanted to call our little boy Austen, no way he just is'nt an Austen.

My son has a school friend called Atlas, I thought it was an odd name at first but now I love it. Also I like Ephram and Joseph and my son is called Connor.

Names I liked for our son were:

Xavier, Theo, Hugh, Miles (Milo for short) and Leo.

    Names I hated:
    Jayden, Kayden, Kye etc.

Had to be careful what I said about names when I was expecting with a few others at work. When one of the girls said the most chavviest names i'd ever heard, I thought she was going to burst out laughing (As if it was a wind up) luckily I kept my cool and said 'Oh how lovely'.

I recommend not telling people the name you decide on, as they will inevitably put you off! This happened to us...

Names discussions always make me laugh - I've had to bite my tongue at some of the suggestions here. There's unusual and then there's chavvy :rotfl:

I'm all for avoiding top 10 (or even top 100) names, but stick with real names - not made up ones!

My 3 boys are Edward, Patrick and Rowan. I have never met anyone else of their ages with those names.

If i have anymore we like Noah and James - nothing like forward planning! Saying that we took 6 days to name ds2 and 10 days with ds3

I didn't like to say it as I was likely to be called a snob! However you are saddling a child with a name and all that means to everyone as soon as they hear it! Don't go chavvy, give them aspirational names!
