Please give your son a normal name, or you're setting him up for a life of misery.

I really do appreciate all the help but there isnt a name that just sings out. Boys names are a nightmare. Someone out there must have the name. Ive looked at famous generals and spartan names but no joy. I might just call him Boy.
    Loving this site.

And please give him one with the proper spelling! I am fed up of correcting people on the spelling of both of my names. (including my dad:rotfl::eek:)

I like Hector, but most disagree with me!

Alfred is good, can be alf alfie fred freddie or the full thing.

William can be bill billy will etc.

I think its good to give a child options, for example bobby is cute for a baby, Rob works for a teenager and they might want Robert if they become a lawyer or a doctor!

why not wait till he is born see how you feel?

why dont you just choose a name you like rather than an unusual name?

I love the name Jonah. My youngest is called Joel. I had never, ever come across a Joel. Two of my friends had sons just after me and they both called their son Joel. Not come across any others though.

Daniel and Adam are both very common names here at the moment. So if you want something usual I would keep away from those.

    D.
and I know 1 Daniel and 2 Adams!
    I'm sure Rowan's a girl's name.
    I've seen it for both

    no please..

I have met a few Joels, all nice boys but not namby pambys

But please consider that a 'stupid' name would - well set up your child as a possible target of bullying...

IMHO (and I am a teacher, I have come across some (puts tactful head on) strange choices)

    what about Saul?

We're having exactly the same problem!

Baby will be born by C-section this Monday coming so we have about 3 days to try and figure something out!!

Have had lots of names which have gone on the list, off the list, back on and back off but none that jump out as being "the one" so we're hoping when we see him inspriation will strike!:o

    Current list is....
    Evan
    Archie
    Sam
    Leo
    Noah
    Peter
    Henry/Harry
    George
    Max
    Oscar
    Benny
    Oliver
    Brody/Brodie
    Joel
    Issac

Just a few to choose from!!! My daughter is Ruby and we had decided that weeks before she was born (providing she was a girl) so rather strange not having a clue this time round.

Some people don't name their child until after they're bron. A friend took quite a while to name his last two - any of the names he liked were taken by other people.

Don't know what he called the older one; but the younger one is called Xanthe. (Zan-thee)

I can see him not being named for a good few days!

I'm printing off that list and taking it in with me on Monday but still not sure about any of them!

I found DS1's name reading the list of boys' names in the freebie book the midwife gave us. It leapt off the page at me, as if I'd never seen it before. It was (and is) a beautiful name, meaning harmony.

I suggested this wonderful name that I'd never seen before to DH. Blame the pregnancy brain: we had one of them living with us; we had a friend with BOTH the names we chose (who felt very flattered, but I'd NEVER have chosen it on that basis); we knew two chaps of that name at church, an older and a younger; I actually have a COUSIN of that name!

But I swear I'd never seen it before, not like I did that day.
