It can be both, there are 2 Rowan's at the nursery I work at (one spelt Roan though) and both, I can assure you, are boys!OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0 -

Maximus? Spike? Stan? All names of children we know.
The Bible is always good for an unusual name - Noah? Gabriel? Methusela? Moses?
Our boy name was to be Iestyn, but a girl it was.
Have a read of Freakonomics - it contains an interesting chapter about children's names and the potential consequences of choosing the wrong one.0 -
My favourite little boy's names are:
Sebastian
Jacob
Harry
Issac
Cameron
...not that quirky but quite solid (I like to think my yet to be concieved son will be an investment banker and the name has to suit the role..I don't know why!?)0 -
Brett, Samson, Joseph, and William. My son is one of them.
For a girl I liked Eva, Lilly, Scarlet or Molly.
Not common, but not in Mylittlepony Trixibelle league"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
I have a granddaughter called Rowan. Her brother is called Jasper.0

My boys are called Brandon Zack and Leto Alex.
When we moved my eldest Brandon was a name no one had heard and he's still only one in his school with that School. Same as my youngest Leto, i love traditional Irish/Celtic names which is were i got mine from.
What about arianna (my LO's friend's name), raheem (very cute), solomon (shorten it to sol), raphael (raph).
not sure of anymore now, frazzled half term brain lol0 -

A few suggestions have been Huw and Hamish I always think these are daft unless you have Scottish or Welsh ancestry. Remember that a name says a lot about you and it needs to be classless. I knew someone who called their son Oliver, but said I wish I had called him Olly. My response well he can just shorten it, but if he ever became a Managing Director of say ICI it will look better if the letterhead says Oliver Casey and not Olly Casey!0

I suppose it must depend where in the country people live whether names are considered to be common or not. some of the ones people have mentioned as rare as quite common near me and others I have never met in my life.
Like one of the other posters mentioned I quite like Riley and also like Rio (but don't think I would be brave enough to call a child that). My all time fav boys name is Callan and I quite like leo too.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
