NB. With goodybags, auto-topup doesn't work so even if you have it set, you'll be cut-off on your anniversary date until you manually top up. Auto only works with air time. Oh, and you can Q >1 goody-bags in advance to prevent cut-off happening.0

Having got an Android phone for my wife was a bit alarmed at the lack of control, internet access seems to be all off or pretty well all on meaning its hard to be sure what (apps) are going to try to connect and how much - I know you can get apps to try to control things but as a newbie quite nervous I am not wise to what its really up to.
Joining Giffgaff was very easy, as I am used to being careful with data usage its quite a novelty to be able to leave 3G on permanently without any worries of a big bill running up and having the phone pickup all the email accounts every 15 minutes.
But suspicious when someone first and only post is running down one company and promoting another's by the way.
O2 3G is like all networks very area dependent, I have an O2 dongle on my laptop for work out in the field and in some unlikely places its full steam HSDPA and others lucky to get GPRS. Generally I have no problem sustaining at least 3G all over the country so perhaps its partly down to peoples equipment? but its certainly not bad.0 -

Well O2 was (a few years back admittedly) the worst network for 3G coverage in the UK after an Ofcom study.
Coverage is one of those things though. I've just moved from T-Mobile to Vodafone network and I have to say the 3G coverage has dropped too. A lot of places (including my home on the outskirts of Glasgow) have no 3G coverage which is a bit of a joke- you'd thought the bigger cities would be all 3G by now. Apparently an upgrade is planned in 12 months but might not still be good enough!0 -
And on Corfu, in a villa in the middle of nowhere I got an easy Vodaphone 3.5G signal. Now we now what the Greeks have been spending all the Germans money on... great networks.0

Just got a giffgaff sim for my edimax 3g 6200n router and xbox via a 3g dongle. It works perfect with my vodafone sim but the giffgaff sim wont let servers connect, it is all set up properly and will allow acces to the internet but nothing gets through, I have it confirmed working with vodafone, o2 and orange but the giffgaff one wont work, it has a gigabag and not a goodybag so I know it's on the right bag. Anyone know what the problem is.0

@ bris.
Have you put connection settings onto the dongle. They are:
APN:giffgaff.com
Username: giffgaff
Password: password
Hope this works for you.0 -
Thanks m8 but I have already done that. I can surf the net with the sim but nothing gets through to me for some reason, like I say my settings are correct because all the other sims work. I can only assume there is something that giffgaff is stopping their end. I have asked for help over on the giffgaff communinty but no one has helped their either.0

Am on the original Virgin PAYG tariff and am considering switching to giffgaff. I would like to upgrade my current phone so it can access the web (email) if necessary - and can do so without buying a separate SIM card through carphone warehouse. I would also like to keep my current number.
Does this seem a sensible way to approach things?
1. Double check O2 coverage in my area?
2. Upgrade the phone on my current SIM card (CPW phones are unlocked)
3. Check whether any of my friends are on GG and, if so, get them to refer me so we both get the £5. If not, use the auto referrer on the GG forums.
4. Once the new GG SIM arrives with its new number, ask current provider for a MAC (?) code, and supply that to GG somehow.
5. Wait for GG to do the necessary behind the scenes stuff.
6. Remove Virgin SIM and discard it - insert GG SIM which by now has my own phone number allocated to it.
7. Away I go.0 -
Yes,that is pretty much it.There is an online form on the "my giffgaff" page to submit your pac.It will take a couple of days to go through.
