DDs and auto topup are some of the things Giffgaffers are asking for - along with some semblance of itemized billing as currently, it's impossible to find out where the money is going e.g. when you consume data on the PAYG offering,

Giffgaff now send a monthly email which shows calls, texts and data useage and advises you on the best plan.

You can order a sim yourself here:
    https://giffgaff.com/orders/free-sim

If you ask someone to order a sim, they will do so through the website and their account.

When the person orders a sim, the sim will have a code allocated to it. Giffgaff then send the sim direct to you and will email you when it is ordered and when it is depatched.

On receipt of the sim and once you register it using the code (printed inside the giffgaff envelope) and an account set up on giffgaff, the system will know who has referred you.

Thank you. So giffgaff physically processes the form and sends the SIM?
    Who sees the form/personal details?

It's confusing, because posts like this one make it look like the member sends the SIM.
On the orders page, it also says,
'some of our members run parts of our business like Customer service or sales, and get rewarded for it',
again implying that forum members process the order form and send out the SIM.

Sorry to seem pedantic, but I think it should be clearer, when you're potentially giving personal data to a complete stranger who could be a new forum member themselves maybe..

A member can also order sims and pass them onto others i.e. friends / family.

No personal data is passed onto strangers. They have to abide by Data Protection and other legislation.

All the information is on their website. However, like many other people, it seems you don't wish to spend the time looking yourself. At some stage you either try it or leave it alone.

Giffgaff is very good and to say their CS is all internet based, it is better than that I have received from any other provider.

It uses the o2 network, so if you don't have good o2 service around you, you're not going to have good service on giffgaff either.

Same as Talk Mobile use Vodafone and Virgin use Everything Everywhere

I tend to agree, having monitored GG (o2)'s miserable performance on 3g around England.

Buying a smartphone on an expensive monthly contract with the promise of lots of included data is actually a con, especially from o2 and Voda. You can hardly access that data.

o2 & Voda simply have not built out a real 3g network of the sorts that you see in Korea/Japan. Down to corporate stinginess and lack of vision.

The Orange/T-Mobile 3g is denser where they have a mobile signal and 3 is probably best of all, if they happen to cover the urban areas where you go most.

I plan to eventually have a smartphone on 3 while always carrying a standard phone on something like GG. Or maybe a dual SIM phone 3 + GG.

I only post asking for advice when I have searched but not found it. Your assumption that I can't be bothered to look for it simply because I haven't successfully found it is wrong. People posting asking questions which show they clearly haven't bothered to try and find the answers themselves is actually one of my pet peeves, so I find your post rather insulting.

As I wrote in my first post, perhaps you could provide links to this information. If you could manage to do this without being rude, that would be a real bonus.
  • This thread might help - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2886670

I was also worried about details being passed but they are not. I read through this thread and then picked a referrer. They never knew anything about me, I ordered the SIM and it came to me - they just got 500 points anonymously and i got £5 credit when I registered the SIM. HTH

Okay I am planning to buying the new Iphone and then using this SIM (pref £10 per month deal), also plan to include my wife onto giffgaff so that we can use free calls. We both are very low users of mobile services - at moment with 3 and we just use £5 topup every 2-3 months as the £5 is valid for 60 or 90 days can't remember. I was wondering if someone could help me understand the following -

    1) If I go for the £10 goodiebag one month then till when is it valid - only for 1 month? If so, what will happen if I don't buy another goodiebag after the expiry?
    2) As most of my calls will be to giffgaff callers can I not top up for 2-3 months and still use the free giffgaff to giffgaff calls?
    3) A bit off topic - Does using a cut down giff gaff sim invalidate the iphone warranty?

Thanks, I know the info is available online but it's confusing to me somtimes.
