  • Ye thats right you can queue goodybags as well as using auto-topup so you can effectively have it running like a contract without having to do anything. I like to topup automatically as this avoids any chance of massive charges (eg if phone is stolen and I dont notice, call premium rate by mistake etc.), I just put £20 on whenever it gets low so cant lose too much. I dont queue goodybags as I work offshore so buy a goodybag when I get back onshore and will usually be back offshore after about 3 weeks so dont want another goodybag to start while Im away as I wont be using it. This means while Im away I am not paying any phone bill for most of the time. This saves a fair bit over a contract as I would be paying it the whole time.

Another good point if you exceed your inclusive minutes on GiffGaff they only charge 8p a minute, or you can use the free 0800 facility to make cheaper calls via someone like 18185.Where as the follow on rates on other networks can be exorbitant.

Did you mean "I don't like to topup automatically..."? ;)

Thanks for the reply. I understand that you can set it up so that one goodybag starts as another one ends, so not really that much trouble, right?

It depends exactly what you mean

Each lasts a calendar month and cannot be cancelled and removed early if all the minutes are used.

However, it is possible to queue one bag to follow on on the expiry date of the current one.
  • Definitely, I work for Telefonica and I know people that worked on it. Derived from an old scottish work meaning (sort of) 'give and take'.
  • I recieved my new giffgaff sim with £5 credit when I top up.. Can someone talk me through it please as I dont quite understand... having a dumb day I'm afraid ha! (nothing new there then!:o)

I would like the new number, so dont need to change that.

Is the minimum top up £10 a month?
Can I really use an O2 top up voucher from the shop to top up?
Do I still have the credit and get the mins/texts/web?
    Whats a goody bag?
And what are these 'payback points' things?
Is it unlimited texts to ANY mobile network
    ^^ same for calls?

Has anyone had problems with delays in topping up, text message timing and internet connections?

Thanks for any help, and I'm quite excited about this sim :):T

http://giffgaff.com/goodybags : "A giffgaff goodybag is a mix of UK minutes, texts and mobile Internet that lasts for a month. The inclusive goodybag minutes and texts allow you to call any UK mobile or landline."
And what are these 'payback points' things?

Yes, but not with all 'goodybags'.
    ^^ same for calls?
How can the calls to other networks be unlimited? It's only giffgaff to giffgaff obviously.

I'm a great advocate of giffgaff. I think they have a great product - however, it never ceases to amaze me the amount of times people jump into something without fully understanding what they are getting into.

At least this time it didn't cost anything to the OP.
  • I've just ordered a giffgaff sim and i think i understand it all. I don't think you get £5/£10 credit as well as the texts minutes and data, i imagine the £5/£10 is to get these so balance will be £0.00 but you'll get the texts, calls and data.
