GiffGaff (belongs to O2 and uses their network)

    Calls 8p texts 4p

And if you buy a £10 goody bag you get 250 UK minutes plus unlimited data and texts (truly unlimited, unlike the other networks)

PS: Asda call and text prices are similar but their data rate is 20p for 1MB, where as giffgaffs is 20p for 20 MB (asda data price is twenty times more expensive!!!!!).

No, Giffgaff is not "cheapest sim-only deal by far".

Please have a look at numerous other threads on this subject.

For non-data use, icardmobile offer 2p/min landlines, 6p/min mobiles and 5p/texts.

Talkmobile, TescoLite, FamilyMobile all match the 8p calls/4p texts of Giffgaff.

As you say, Giffgaff is 20p for 20MB but then charges 20p per MB (or at least they will from 1st June once charging for data is sorted).

A Vectone PAYG SIM offers 10MB free every day (for 30 days from a top-up) and charges 10p/MB beyond this.

They way giffgaff keeps getting mentioned on here could end up with it being put it in the same quarantine as TelecomPlus.

Yes, Giffgaff is a good offer, but there are others equally good and better.

    Hi Guys

My contract with Vodafone has just expired and I'm thinking of going PAYG. Hadn't even heard of GiffGaff til this evening!!!!

And I'm totally green when it comes to PAYG (never had one before).

So - excuse the completely simple and potentially dumb question.....

With SIMs like GG, if I get one, can I simply buy a goody bag each month and THAT's IT (so long as I don't go over any limits)? Or do I have to top up as well? Or does the goody bag count as a top-up?

If someone could lay it on the line for a PAYG simpleton I'd much appreciate it!

    Cheers

    Max

Are you authorised to make suggestions like that?

Martin Lewis mentioned giffgaff from June onwards last year.

Would you like to tell him off as well?

I did not intend to sound like I was telling anyone off. gim1952's post was originally a new thread which has since been merged.

Giffgaff does have a good offer, as I said, but it certainly isn't "..the best SIM deal by far.." and I felt the need to correct such a comment. I'm sure Martin would agree with that.

I can only think that it is giffgaff's referal structure and incentives that encourages people to over-egg their benefits and presume that they must be the best thing since sliced bread.

    Hi Max,
I have never bought a goody bag as the payg is enough for me however I have looked at the web site and I believe you can just buy a bag without the need to top up.

The down side of having no 'credit' is if you need something outside the goody bag included items.

You don't have to topup as such, can just buy a goodybag direct from your card as others have said. Personally I always topup £15 when I need to - this then allows me to buy my monthly £10 goodybag and leaves £5 for me to be able to use premium features in the rare event I need to (e.g. MMS). When "payback" payments are added to my account they generally take me above £10, therefore leaving me free to have another £10 month without topping up again.

Just make sure you have another goodybag queued before expiry... I forgot I was back on PAYG after contact... after a 10 minute call to my friend 2 days after my first goodybag expired I was cut off as my credit ran out!

Has anyone got any knowledge of GiffGaff.com?

It seems too good to be true?
